Get to know Jenna Goots, one of our Summer Interns on The Collective NORAM team! A bit about yourself (where from, what college you attend): I’m from Richmond, Virginia and I go to West Virginia University. What are you majoring in/career aspirations after graduation?: I’m majoring in advertising and public relations with minors in marketing and event planning. After graduation I’d like to work within the event’s industry, especially on the creative and management sides. Favorite part about working with The Collective? Always working on something new and different and being able to work with so many kind and inspiring people who care about helping me succeed whether that’s in this company or another. Biggest success of your internship? Forming connections with the teams and learning more about the industry and potential career paths. What are you doing when you aren’t in school or working? Hanging out with my family, eating yummy foods, and taking workout classes. Where are you traveling to next? France 😊

This is an oldie, but a goodie. Nihilistic Security Questions For Password Resets (tip of the hat to Larry Rosen) What is the name of your least favorite child? In what year did you abandon your dreams? What is the maiden name of your father’s mistress? At what age did your childhood pet run away? What was the name of your favorite unpaid internship? In what city did you first experience ennui? What is your ex-wife’s newest last name? What sports team do you fetishize to avoid meaningful discussion with others? What is the name of your favorite canceled TV show? What was the middle name of your first rebound? On what street did you lose your childlike sense of wonder? When did you stop trying?

Founder, Brand and Creative Strategist // If you can't out-spend the competition, you've got to out-brand them.
Make no mistake - how you treat your employees is a brand play. Let me explain. I was already aware of Once Upon a Farm, but this honest praise for a dedicated intern planted a seed in my mind (as an outsider completely unaffiliated with the company) that this is a brand with genuine integrity behind it. They don't seem to be doing it for likes, or sales, or web traffic. There are not likely KPIs set against it, no data reports will be pulled to measure it's effectiveness, but that doesn't mean it's not a smart marketing move. It effects how we see and feel about them. Which effects purchasing intent. Not everything is measured in CTRs and ROAS, folks.
So many of you were invested in the post about my fabulous intern Sophia Salgado that I wanted to share some amazing news from Once Upon a Farm. Even though her internship doesn't end for a couple of months we put forth a job offer, and she accepted!! I feel so lucky that she said yes and honestly don't know what we would do without her. She will work directly with me for about a year as a cross-departmental foundation build before heading on whatever path she feels passionate about developing. Congratulations to both you and us Sophia! Here we are volunteering on an orchard during our All Company Offsite.

Happy Intern Day! In the course of the past two months, it has been fun and interesting to work with and get to know some of our interns. For many (maybe all?) this is their first fully in-person job experience. When I contrast our intern program this summer with my son's internship with Coke during the pandemic, it's like night and day. Both positive experiences, but very different. I know there is still a lot of discussion around #returntooffice and in our business that discussion usually focuses a lot on investment in office buildings. I wonder the long-term impact on young careers of in-person vs. work from anywhere vs. hybrid internships and early work experience.
Happy National Intern Day! We want to honor our interns that have been working with us this summer. We are grateful for all of their hard work and dedication throughout these past two months. (Bottom to top; L-R): Bergen Friedman, Hannah Rizik, Shaylyn Nair, Trevor Smith, Garrett Mitchell, Liam Gagnon, Sohan Upadhya, Ethan Patel, Alex Lavine, John Ginley, Vipul Bansal, Will Stephens, Aren Patel, Garrett Anderson and Bryn Rees Nahrung. As we look back at the summer, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to our interns for their valuable contributions to our team. Their presence has truly brightened our days, and as their time with us concludes, we're thrilled to reflect on the remarkable moments they've shared. Next up: Brady Allen who interned with our Parks Permits Department! Q: What is one thing you learned from your internship at Montgomery Parks? A: "I've developed an understanding of the importance of each division and how they all work together to help run a multi-million-dollar park system." Q: What is your proudest accomplishment/moment from your internship? A: "I am quite proud of my contributions to the updates on our park fields. I was able to help determine current field sizes and their associated sport, which will help customers better understand our fields during the reservation process. " Q: What was your favorite experience? A: "I thoroughly enjoyed using satellite images to look at and study our fields. This experience allowed me to recognize and appreciate all of the amazing facilities our residents have at their disposal. " Q: Any advice for new interns? A: "Don't be afraid to ask questions. At first, you are not familiar with all the policies of the office. By asking questions it helped me become so much more familiar with how things are run. Your coworkers are there to help you and trust me, they are more than willing to help!"
