Happy Monday everyone! What a busy end of the week last week was. On Thursday night, Team Lighthouse Technology Services got to participate in the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge . Then, on Friday morning, Seneca One did a flag raising ceremony for #flagday. This event welcomed Highmark Inc. to the building, as well! Wishing everyone a productive start to the week... looks like it's going to be a hot one here in Buffalo 😎 ☀

This is a very interesting and sad statistic to still be seeing in 2024. Yesterday, was #BlackWomensEqualPayDay. My main hope is that with pay transparency being implemented in states such as New York and California will start to help with some of the race and gender pay discrepancies' we're still seeing. Over the course of my company implementing this, we have already seen it helping with making sure that candidates are getting what they deserve for pay and nothing less, no matter age race or gender, because they can see the range that the role is offering.
Today is #BlackWomensEqualPayDay, and sadly Black women earn just 66 cents for every dollar earned by their non-Hispanic white counterparts. This wage gap results in an annual loss of over $22,000. Over a 40-year career, it means nearly $1 million less in earnings for a Black woman with a bachelor's degree compared to a white man with the same qualifications. At Girls Who Code, we empower young women and nonbinary individuals of color to pursue careers in tech, where Black women earn significantly more—making 92 cents to the dollar in 2022. Yet, they still hold only 3% of computing jobs in the US. Let’s be clear: the tech industry is not exempt from racial and gender bias. We need a profound cultural shift to ensure Black women have equal opportunities in tech. It’s time for tech companies to tackle the systemic racism that often targets Black women in the workplace. Today, Lighthouse Technology Services co-hosted the Cereal Social with Serendipity Labs here in the Seneca One building. We had an awesome turnout and it was great to meet new people and get together for some morning networking! Fun fact, the water in the right hand corner of this photo was "fruity pebbles" flavored.
