I’m still holding Amazon stock, and it’s because of moves like this. Adept AI, one of the top agentic AI startups, is going through a big shift, as its founders and some employees are headed to Amazon. David Luan, the CEO of Adept and former VPE at OpenAI and Director at Google AI, is joining Amazon as a VP to oversee Amazon’s “AGI Autonomy” division as well as the automations team. *note for my followers: the AGI team is hiring ~200 folks across mostly USA and India

Didn’t Microsoft do this exact same playbook (hire away CEO of DeepMind rather than buy the company at too high of a valuation) not that long ago? If I’m the VCs pouring tons of money into these growth stage AI companies, I’d be looking at putting some sort of protective provisions in place so that the teams can’t just bail and leave me holding the bag.

Are you seeing any standout solutions that are effectively delivering on the potential of AI agents? While the initial hope around AI agents was high, practical implementations seem to be lagging behind expectations. I'm excited about this space, hopefully we can see more solutions emerge, where I think this can really accelerate productivity and use cases.

There are quite a bit of startup working on these agentic flows, yet none of them have a product out publicly. I’d say it’s a fair bet that it’s early days, and large challenges remain. It’s also likely that leader are taking their time, because the first product with high reliability there will be huge
While this one individual is a strong move… In general, there was a failure in planning and foresight. A lot of SMEs were laid off last year. Lo and behold, now big tech wants to hire many of these people back. There could have been a lot more GenAI progress if leaders had anticipated this need and adjusted accordingly.
