Flashback. First beautiful thing of the day: the pasta fairy has visited again last night! This is love. No grand show. No audience. Just my husband quietly making food for his family, alone, in the evening, after the four kids have gone to bed. This new passion of his is hugely appreciated. (And we love his makeshift “drying racks”.) What are you proud of today? Yesterday morning, Emma decided to create some paper food. She started by drawing, coloring, and cutting out a donut. She brought it over to me and I made a big deal about his beautiful and delicious it was. I could see her pride and she said she was going to make more. She spent the next four hours in the playroom drawing, coloring, and cutting. She made drinks, snacks, breakfast, dinner, and even desserts. There were five different kinds of cookies! She would bring her paper food in every now and then to show me one she was extra proud of. When she was finished, she made menus and setup her shop for us to visit. When my in-laws came over for dinner, we all went to her restaurant. Everyone ordered their food, sat with her and “ate”. We told her how delicious it was, how much we loved it, and how we wanted more. She sat there. Taking our orders carefully, saying thank you for coming, and just beaming with a smile. She spent almost five hours today on this for us to sit and enjoy it for fifteen minutes. It didn’t matter the effort, for her, she was having fun and proud of what she was doing. When we are having fun and are proud of the work we do, we will give discretionary effort and enjoy what we do more. What are you proud of today? #growthmindset #leadership #progressoverperfection
