Julie Easley what happened?! February is the wrong month for ghosts! Recruiters, please remember what it’s like to be human. A call, email, text message, goes a long way to respecting someone’s life, time, and mental state when applying for positions. When we ghost, disappear, fail to follow up, we create an unnecessary injustice and anxiety to someone who only wanted to help. Until we fix the system, I will do my part in calling these injustices out. There are hundreds of consultants that are overlooked due to nepotistic practices and discrimination, and even blacklisted or dismissed because they have the courage to speak. I am not afraid. The more we respect the professionals that do the work, take the flights, deal with the anxiety and stress of education and implementation, the more cohesive our healthcare system, and recruitment strategies will be.

Psychologically Fighting Fear. From Indeed.com, we have the following control measures on fear: 1. You are responsible for coordinating efforts to eliminate or mitigate your fears; become a fear administrator. 2. Start engaging in and coordinating activities to win against your fears, like joining a support group or seeking therapy or medical help. 3. Initiate (and coordinate) strategies towards eliminating or controlling your fears, like sharing your fears with persons who can help you overcome or alleviate its effect; or choosing to move against them. 4. You should take small steps at first. 5. Employ staff and available resources to manage your fears, some of which are already mentioned.

In Australia we are fiercely advocating for trauma informed interviewing so interviewers prioritise victim felt safety, with consideration of influences, and a better understanding of the science (body and brain responses) which impact memory retrieval and victim disclosure. This End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) course I completed today was so insightful!!! The role of first responders, supporting the police response, victim advocacy, survival responses, reflexes and habits (not fight/flight), central & peripheral details, acute & non acute reporting, medical forensic examinations, detailed interview techniques, why recording of interviews is encouraged, control and empowerment for victims, multidimensional experience, reframing why questions, terminology and language, body language, soft interview settings, interviewer reactions, closing interview strategies and follow up & I know, those who know me are wondering how many pages of notes( 15 okay 😉) and a massive final assessment which YESSSS I passed 🙌

I love this series by Brenda Bouw because it showcases what I’ve learned: most financial advisors are in the business because they care about people. They’ve had experiences they want to help others avoid. They want to help. The myth of the Evil Advisor is rarely true. The systems we work within are really tough though, on a variety of levels. Want to go where financial planners are working together to make it better for everyone? Join the Financial Planning Association of Canada (it’s not the same as FP Canada). Your community is waiting.
It was an honour to be interviewed by Brenda Bouw for the Globe Advisor. We chatted about: -my experiences with money growing up -job loss (yes...my own!) -emotions around money & loss aversion Check it out! (Link in the comments)

Good Morning America presented a piece on the ongoing challenges providers are having with finding and keeping direct care workers over the weekend. Many of us have been advocating for rate increases to help address this shortage and Governor Shapiro announced at the NADSP conference a few weeks ago that the Department of Human Services conduct a review of the state rates paid to providers. Provider organizations statewide have come together to present recommendations on how this rate review should be conducted and are urging DHS to: • Conduct a full market-based analysis to update rates as required under regulation. • Fully invest in fee schedule rates based on economic data and its stated goals. • Ensure rates are adjusted for inflation going forward. • Implement updated rates retroactively to July 1, 2023. Good Morning America's piece can be seen below. Growing concerns about group homes Advocacy groups say a workforce shortage is causing group homes helping Americans with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be understaffed. abcnews.go.com
