🌸 Happy 1st Day of Spring from the National Medical Association Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Section! 🌼 Did you know that the changing seasons can have a significant impact on allergies and asthma, especially in the African American community? According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI), African Americans are more likely to have asthma and often experience more severe symptoms compared to other racial and ethnic groups. Springtime allergens like pollen can trigger asthma attacks and worsen allergy symptoms, making it crucial for individuals to manage their conditions effectively. This season, let's prioritize our respiratory health and raise awareness about the importance of proper allergy and asthma management within the African American community. Together, we can work towards better health outcomes for all. #SpringAllergies #AsthmaAwareness #AllergySeason #HealthEquity #AfricanAmericanHealth #NMAAllergyAsthmaImmunology #Spring2024 #HealthcareForAll [Sources: @AAAAI_org, @NationalMedAssn]

The disease spectrum involving both Allergic Rhinitis (AR) and Asthma is a well-recognized phenomenon, often referred to as the "united airway disease." Many individuals with asthma also suffer from allergic rhinitis, and vice versa, due to shared underlying inflammatory processes in the respiratory system. The coexistence of these conditions can result in a more severe and challenging clinical course. Allergy Immunotherapy (AIT) emerges as a valuable therapeutic approach for patients with both allergic rhinitis and asthma. Pulmonologists and allergists often collaborate to tailor AIT protocols based on the patient's specific allergens and clinical presentation, recognizing the shared nature of allergic rhinitis and asthma. Join us at RespInsight Scientific Conference - 2024 for invaluable insights into understanding the disease spectrum of allergic rhinitis & asthma and Allergy Immunotherapy (AIT). Attend the conference and hear from the most renowned pulmonologists Dr. Arunesh Kumar and Dr. Ashish Kumar Prakash. The event will be graced by Dr. Anand Jaiswal, Senior Director, Respiratory Allergy Clinic, Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, Medanta The Medicity. 🗓️ Date: 9th and 10th March, 2024 📍 Venue: Four Points by Sheraton, New Delhi #respiratorydisease #conference #medicalconference #healthcare

As we turn the corner out of allergy season, adequate asthma control is next on the agenda as the weather cools. Not only is asthma an independent risk factor for anaphylaxis, it also presents a point of challenge to balance the risk vs benefit of oral steroids in the wake of inadequately controlled asthma as outlined in the brilliant landmark paper by Dr David Price et al in 2018. Price DB, Trudo F, Voorham J, Xu X, Kerkhof M, Ling Zhi Jie J, Tran TN. Adverse outcomes from initiation of systemic corticosteroids for asthma: long-term observational study. J Asthma Allergy. 2018 Aug 29;11:193-204. doi: 10.2147/JAA.S176026. PMID: 30214247; PMCID: PMC6121746.

I have been on all sides of a clinical trial. Clinical trials must be a health care option. 1. When I was young - My mom consented for me to be in a clinical trial from age 4 to 17. 2. I wrote a protocol as a new Clinical Researcher. I tried to consent my 1st patient & the patient informed me the protocol was not patient friendly. I learned the importance of Patient Co-Creation of a Clinical Trial Protocol. 3. I have consented as an adult to be a part of a clinical trial. 4. Even though today is Clinical Trials Awareness Day, there are many ways People can engage in research. a. Provide patient and caregiver insights about living with a condition. b. Provide insights about a study protocol and patient participation c. Participate in an disease or condition specific education study. d. Provide insights about new medication options e. Provide expertise to studies f. Help write and review clinical trial summaries for patients. There are many more places patient ans caregiver partners can participate. If you have questions about participating, give me a shout!
Today is Clinical Trial Awareness Day! Clinical trials help improve the lives of people living with different health conditions and are important in advancing treatment and management for many chronic diseases. Anyone can get involved as a patient partner in a clinical trial! Open Access: House dust mite SCIT reduces asthma risk and significantly improves long-term rhinitis and asthma control—A RWE study. Corresponding author: Marek Jutel Read the article here: doi.org/10.1111/all.16052 This study presents 6-year follow-up results for real-world effectiveness of house dust mite (HDM) subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) compared to non-AIT in Germany based on a retrospective claims database analysis. During the follow-up period after at least 2 years of SCIT, the number of prescriptions in the SCIT group reduces by 62.8% for allergic #rhinitis medication and by 42.4% for #asthma medication. Compared to non-AIT, HDM SCIT reduces the probability of asthma onset and the number of patients developing asthma from allergic rhinitis over time. #Allergy_journal Read more articles published in Allergy on allergen #immunotherapy here: https://lnkd.in/dVsjXuR8
