Well, at least this time, I am posting on a Thursday.
I am looking for some experience shares. We are considering hiring a Social Media/Content Coordinator for our various companies.
We are looking for someone to run our social media channels, SEO efforts as well as our content creation (blogs, etc...). This would be for 3-4 different companies.
As a 55 year old man....who barely knows how to post on Facebook....here are my questions:
Can one person cover off on 3-4 different companies? Or is that too much for one person? Or is it not enough work for a full time role?
What does a day in the life of this person look like? What do they do all day?
What does an acceptable salary for this position look like?
What are the success factors?
Is it possible to find someone that knows social media and also knows the event space? Or is that an insane ask?

One way to stand out and grow your skills is to explore educational avenues. But, where do you start? I currently am a part time social media co-ordinator, but with it being my only paid social media job thus far, it is hard to know the next steps.

I agree but I also think that if you segment these jobs, that leads to a problem where you have arms of an octopus pulling in different directions.
If you delegate SMM to an assistant, I don’t see a problem with that as long as the strategy comes from the top so that it’s consistent with email, SEO, etc.
Otherwise, as I’ve seen in countless organizations of various sizes, you have verticals that segment audiences unintentionally which dilutes your marketing efforts, and confuse teams and customers alike.
You don’t have an omnichannel experience at all, you have omnibrand, omniwebsite, omniproduct perhaps, but you have a chaotic kraken marketing strategy.

Social Media Manager is not a “slash” job...and neither are the jobs so many employers are trying to group them with.

Seeing a lot of SEO and digital PR positions with a requirement of having 5+ years of experience.
These miss the mark the same way most do when they ask for a bachelor's degree.
SEO & Digital PR have changed over the past 24 months and will continue to over the next 24 months.
Should the person have experience? Yes.
Enough so that they can show you how they'll position your brand online and why.
Enough so that they know how to execute a strategy around it.
But experience alone won't cut it anymore. The world is changing too fast for that.
Look for people with Skills and Attitude instead.
That's how I built one of the best SEO agencies, StudioHawk, and that's how I will continue to onboard my team.
I know some great folks out there who'd run circles around those "experienced."

Each of these roles requires its own unique skillset and experience.
Remember, a well-defined team with individual strengths is much stronger than one person expected to wear all the hats. It is best to hire the best people who respect specialization and enable individuals to excel in their areas of expertise.
