I’m beyond grateful to work with this team on one of the gnarliest challenges of our (tech) time. Working with this team also means working with so many of you. Building a more private internet takes investment and I’m on a high after hearing so many people I respect say out loud how they’re stepping up to the challenge.
Alex Cone - privacy is a non price factor of competition. Privacy is a spectrum, not a boolean concept. Why not free Google's Privacy Sandbox (GPS) to compete on it's merits by guaranteeing existing interoperability? We'll then start to see many solutions come forward offering everyone choice rather than Google's singular self serving vision. No one's privacy is improved when Google and Apple working as "one company" know everything about everyone without any practical choice. Forcing others to make investments is raising rivals costs, and that's just not on. You should be free to waste Alphabet Inc. shareholders money. That doesn't give you the right to force others to do the same. That's why I and Tim Cowen founded Movement for an Open Web to bring regulation to the digital market, and force common carriers like Google to not interfere with rivals. ⬇ https://movementforanopenweb.com/mows-mission-opening-the-web-for-everyone/
Awesome to see you briefly in Cannes Alex. Looking forward to sharing our next panel 👌🏻
I, too, find “gnarly” as the best description for this challenge 🙃 — Can’t wait to hear about it when you’re back!
Great to see you in Cannes and at the Carlton! Looking forward to the year ahead.
