Hey, it's Friday :) "Houston, we have a problem." or should I say "Cupertino, you have a problem." This is not good news for the #VirtualReality #AugmentedReality #ExtendedReality #MixedReality or #SpatialComputing community. But hopefully it is a wake up call for Apple. I wonder what Steve Jobs would say about this decision to "suspend work on #VisionPro2". Cost: 3,500 USD. What is going on at Apple? Has Apple forgotten how to innovate? Does suspending work on Vision Pro 2 to develop a device with fewer features for $1,600, wich is 4X more expensive that #OculusQuest2 and 2.5X more expensive that #OculusQuest3 make any sense? But, after all the typical fanfare at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 5, 2023, where the new Apple Vision Pro that was announced, the device failed to win the minds and hearts of consumers, like the legendary iPod, iPhone, iPad did. I am curious to hear opinions from the #VR #AR #XR #MR and #spatialcomputing community. I am an Apple user, an iOS product developer and long time Apple fan. I own an iPhone, a MacBookPro, and an Apple Watch. I love Apple products. But, when I tried Apple's Vision Pro for the first time at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in Feb 2024, I was disappointed. Our company MYND Therapeutics Inc. would have loved to develop great #MR experiences for the Vision Pro. But, we'll have to wait and see. P.S. Apple has decided to halt production of their Apple Vision Pro due to 'underwhelming performance.' 🍎 Apple decided to cut production before the headset was released in markets outside the U.S., suggesting a significant drop in domestic demand 🍎 The original plan was to manufacture up to 800,000 units in 2024, but this has now been reduced to 400,000 units 🍎 The company is said to have been struggling to find ways to reduce the model's costs without sacrificing too many features, which means that it will likely slip beyond its revised release date of the end of 2025 🍎 This is great news for companies like Sightful who understood the assignment; Check out their AR laptop the "Spacetop G1" What do you think is the reason behind the Apple Vision Pro poor performance? New Post: Apple has sold 200,000 Vision Pro headsets, report says - https://lnkd.in/gQFq_3E2 - Apple Vision Pro, the company's first foray into the virtual/augmented reality space, is selling like hotcakes. Very expensive hotcakes. According to MacRumors, which cites a source familiar with Apple's sales numbers, the company has sold 200,000 Vision Pro units since the device became available for pre-order on January 19. This is roughly in line with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's estimate that Apple sold 160,000 to 180,000 units in the first couple of days. Kuo originally predicted that Apple will have between 60,000 to 80,000 units in stock for launch day. The 200,000 figure, if accurate, does indicate that pre-order sales have slowed down since the opening weekend. With shipping times moving into March shortly after pre-orders opened, and all inventory in Apple store unavailable, the Vision Pro is essentially sold out. It officially becomes available for purchase on Feb 2, but it may be next to impossible to get one on that date. Apple's #VisionPro is set to launch in March next year, and everyone is wondering whether it will launch with a bang or a whimper... With a $4,000 price tag, it's fair to say that this is launching as a luxury item for now, as the tech finds its footing and establishes its audience, but don't forget that iMacs, MacBooks, and high-end laptops don't come cheap either, and this is the market they're looking to compete in (for now). Once that price lowers (assuming it does), I think this tech has a lot of potential in the mainstream, especially for those looking to replace their bulky laptops with a streamlined #WorkingFromHome setup that can work from anywhere. Like another other new technology the price is step, but will come down in time. Apple said the Vision Pro headset would launch on Feb. 2, with preorders opening on Jan. 19. Apple Vision Pro 2 - features and release date There are still rumors about the release date because Apple doesn't give any information directly. Experts estimate it won't be until 2026 at the earliest. 📍 Let's talk about the good stuff. In the near term, according to Chinese magazine WallStreetCN, Apple plans to release a budget Vision helmet (possibly called Air), which will be announced as early as June 2025, during the WWDC presentation. The helmet will be cheaper by about 400 grams, and will be sold at the price of the new iPhone Pro, making it several times more affordable than the current model. Admittedly, the glasses will be noticeably worse than the Pro version, as the savings are more likely to affect the processor, display and material costs. (🥴 Whether there's any incentive to buy a helmet of worse quality when there's an objectively cooler Quest 3 in all parameters remains under a big question.) About the Vision Pro 2. Let me say right away: it won't get cheaper. Because Apple is simply not used to lowering prices on new generations: instead, they offer an improved interface for the same price. As an experienced VR-specialist, I am often asked my opinion whether it is worth buying Apple Vision Pro now, and even in the future.... I answer honestly: if this will be your first experience of using VR-technology, you expect something large-scale and justifying its price and in general are not attached to brands (perhaps specifically Apple), then no. It is worth waiting and paying attention to the next generation, when the system will be pumped up with various programs, current bugs will be eliminated and in general the firm will offer a more advanced device in all parameters. ⤴️ Although there are many examples when Vision has justified itself, and mostly it concerns working spheres. For everything else, you can consider the same Quest 3, it's just not as popular with all its advantages. ⚡️ What to expect from the new generation? First things first. Of course, more pumped up software. Two. A more efficient battery. Three. A faster processor. Fourth. Even better resolution. Fifth. A boost in artificial intelligence.
