Its journey from rise to decline is a captivating tale of growth, cultural significance, and eventual fading—a captivating part of social media history. The platform's user-friendly interface featured elements like scrapbooks, testimonials, and photo sharing that struck a chord with users seeking to extend their circles into the realm. By 2008 Orkut had become the website in Brazil and India even surpassing Google's search engine popularity in these regions. In Brazil, particularly, Orkut became more than a website—it became a phenomenon where friendships flourished, communities thrived, and individuals shaped their online identities; for Brazilians, Orkut served as their gateway into the world of social networking. 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 users also embraced the platform, using it to stay connected with friends and family in the widespread Indian diaspora. 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐤𝐮𝐭 𝐄𝐫��� The Bollywood Bond, Orkut, played a role in India by connecting fans with Bollywood celebrities. Unofficial fan clubs flourished on the platform, where users shared pictures, movie news, and personal stories about their stars. Fans often sent messages to celebrities in hopes of receiving a response, which some stars graciously provided to the joy of their followers. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐳𝐞: In Brazil, Orkut was so deeply ingrained in life that internet cafes known as "𝐋𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬" became popular, particularly in urban areas. These cafes were bustling with people updating their profiles, joining groups, and leaving messages on friends' pages. The platform's influence even led to the emergence of slang terms. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥? Despite its success, Orkut's popularity waned as competitors, like Facebook and Twitter, gained momentum. Several factors contributed to Orkut's loss of favor; 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: While Orkut's simplicity served it well initially, it eventually became a hindrance.The platform needed to catch up with its competitor's pace of innovation. Facebook, continuously introducing features and apps, began attracting users. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬: Orkut encountered problems with spam, fake profiles, and security breaches. These issues damaged user trust and prompted many to look for secure platforms.

Over the past weekend, social networking platform Fanbase reported its highest user growth in the company's history, gaining over 30,000 new users in just 3 days. This notable surge represents a daily increase of 185%, with an additional 14,000 users already on board at the start of this week. Industry insiders believe that this sudden surge in Fanbase's popularity can be traced back to the controversial update on Clubhouse, the once-famed audio chat app. Late last week, Clubhouse unveiled an update that resulted in an uproar among its long-standing user base. Key features of the update involved the removal of popular users from the platform and a shift from "followers" to "friends", significantly diminishing the reach of large creators who had dedicated three years to building their presence on the app. In response to this development, the Fanbase team took swift action, welcoming the influx of new users while scaling up server bandwidth to ensure a seamless experience for its rapidly expanding community. This surge in users comes as opportune timing for Fanbase, which is set to conclude its final Reg CF campaign in approximately two weeks.

Inspiring story of Linktree — bootstrapped and global from day 1. In 2016, Alex Zaccaria, his brother and friend, worked at a digital agency. They ran Instagram accounts for bands and festivals, posting about their new merch, tours, and tracks. Every time they wanted to make a new announcement, they had to change the link in the Instagram bio. Since they handled multiple client accounts, manually changing links was tiring and repetitive. To end this menace, they launched a platform that'd direct their followers to the correct link without changing it every other day. That's how Linktree was born. The developer took just 6 hours to create this platform. Imagine! In no time, word got out, and the platform saw a tremendous spike in organic traffic. Today, the platform records 30 million users. Such is its spectacular growth. In the early days, Linktree encountered an interesting situation. Instagram shut them down and flagged all the Linktree links as spam. Their users were upset and lodged 41,000 complaints to Instagram for taking this unnecessary step. Within an hour, Instagram shared an apology and enabled all Linktree links. That's the power of community, which only happens when you build a functional product. Although Linktree's base plan is free, they now also have paid plans for premium services.
