AUSTRALIAN SKILLS PASSPORT SYSTEM to CONNECT WORKERS and EMPLOYERS The federal government has introduced a commendable initiative: "With a passport, you can travel; with a skills passport, you can secure employment". However, the specifics of this program are still in the early stages of development and have yet to be finalised. Nevertheless, it promises to offer a valuable platform for skilled professionals to gain recognition and connect through a nationwide skills passport system…” remarked Wee-Oon Chief Executive from OZemployment. This passport system aims to facilitate workers in showcasing their comprehensive qualifications, micro-credentials, prior educational achievements, workplace experience, and general proficiencies. Under this proposal, a professional worker's qualifications would be securely stored in a digital format, much like My Health Record national system. Furthermore, it is anticipated to unify various reform initiatives, including changes to the migration system, under a single overarching framework. "The positive impact is achieved through the sharing of data among professionals and employers. However, when we look at skills data for a group or population, its significance grows even further. It helps gain insights into employment requirements, formulating effective policies, and devising more informed plans” … adds Wee-Oon OZemployment.com.au focuses on addressing professional skilled labour shortages and in the past year, has conducted extensive research on the top 150+ in demand job categories, with 300,000+ available positions across Australia. #OZemployment #SkilledLabour #SkilledEmployment #Diversity #Equality https://lnkd.in/e8-AvS29 https://lnkd.in/ghKXk8RA

WEAPONISE YOUR PRIVILEGE: My Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) team and I went to a Speaking in Colour Pty Ltd Cultural Capability workshop yesterday. I spent most of the day trying not to cry. Australia's history is hard to hear, especially when it comes first hand from someone whose family has been so completely devastated by terrible Government policies and institutional racism. Facilitator Cherie Johnson's message was clear: If you have privilege, use it to make things better. - Buy from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses - Amplify the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people so they can share their stories - Vote consciously and carefully and hold politicians to account - Know what country you're on and learn the local history - Build reciprocal relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for the good of everyone - Make space for different perspectives - Put your 'wisdom hat on' - let go of pride and ego and embrace humility and openness to learning - Focus on strengths, not deficits - If you don't know what's appropriate in terms of language or etiquette, ask. We can't undo the past but we can start repairing the damage through meaningful, genuine reconciliation that builds empathy and rebuilds trust.

Top Voice | 40 under 40 Most Influential Asian Australian | Dr John Yu Fellow | Organisational Culture | Intersectional Diversity, Equity & Inclusion | Ethics | Banking & Financial Services Ambassador | Gadigal Land
The Department of Home Affairs has just opened the submission process for the Multicultural Framework Review. The Review is the first in decades and will assess and make recommendations on the institutional arrangements, legislative and policy settings required to advance a multicultural Australia and meet the current and future needs of multicultural Australia at the Commonwealth level. The Review will be looking at a range of issues with some of these being: 🔸 Identifying areas for reform to address any systemic barriers that prevent people from multicultural communities from fully participating in Australian society, including those barriers that exist due to racism and discrimination 🔸The effectiveness of current federal diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, including for the promotion of people from CALD backgrounds into leadership roles 🔸How the Federal Government can more strategically communicate and engage multicultural Australia, including in languages other than English 🔸 Opportunities to define a modern shared Australian identity and strengthen public understanding of multiculturalism as a collective responsibility through education and public awareness raising. The Review will consider the diverse range of experiences in multicultural Australia, and it will assess and make recommendations on matters that address barriers to inclusion as well as those that enhance the social, cultural and economic strengths provided by Australia’s multicultural diversity. And it will also consider the gendered forms of prejudice and discrimination which may act as compounding barriers to social and economic inclusion. The submission process will be open until 29 September 2023.
