In alignment with our core value, "Serving Our Communities," we offer our employees 16-hours of paid volunteer time. Sarah Schroeder, Communications Manager, used some of these hours with Junior Achievement of Oregon & SW Washington (JA), an organization dedicated to helping young people prepare for their future. JA's Finance Park takes local students through a simulation of real-life expenses to introduce budgeting and planning for their desired future. "I enjoyed seeing students work through what budget items to prioritize and recognize the areas that were 'wants' rather than 'needs,'" said Sarah. Chapter One UK's online reading volunteers get as much out of their weekly sessions as the children they read with. "There's a real sense of achievement for me and for her," explains Rochelle Bennie from our corporate partner, Liberty Global. #literacy #itallstartswithliteracy #volunteersweek #volunteering #employeevolunteering #esg #csr #socialvalue #socialimpact #employeewellbeing #employeeengagement
#VolunteersWeek is a chance to celebrate and give thanks to our volunteers for the fantastic impact they have on our young students’ lives. Rochelle Bennie is a Senior Manager, Global Talent, at our Silver Partner Liberty Global. She is one of our amazing 2,700 online reading volunteers who spend 30 minutes reading online with a child each week, helping us to create a world where all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Together, our online reading volunteers have racked up an incredible 18,000 hours of reading support this academic year - meaning they have read with children for a whole two years collectively since last September. Hear what Rochelle has to say about her experience volunteering with Chapter One 👇 Stories from our volunteers like Rochelle about the way they see reading confidence blossom in the children they support each week, are truly inspiring and special. 💜 Read more about Rochelle’s experience of being a volunteer: https://lnkd.in/eFJF6QRn #ChapterOne #itallstartswithliteracy #employeewellbeing #socialvalue #socialimpact #socialmobility #literacy #corporatepartnerships #corporatevolunteering #volunteersweek

Emmy award-winning Journalist, Communications Consultant, Content Creator, Freelance Writer, Trustee and Event Chair at Sansum Diabetes Research Institute
My latest article profiling the people of Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Jeremy Howard is a humble hero who makes our community a better place!
Not all superheroes wear capes, and Jeremy Howard is proof. This PG&E coworker has been giving back for years as a volunteer with the San Luis Obispo County Search and Rescue team. He embodies the spirit of giving, something we have been celebrating this holiday season by spotlighting our generous PG&E coworkers as part of our Campaign for Our Hometowns. Jeremy is proud to serve his community, whether he’s wearing a Search and Rescue badge or PG&E attire: “The way I look at it is what PG&E does is a public service, as well. I get used to being in that role, always serving the public, whether it’s paid or unpaid.” https://lnkd.in/g3WXH7kG #WhyIGive #PGEGives #Volunteers

Compare the Market is one of Chapter One UK's fantastic corporate partners that sponsor their employee volunteers to read online weekly with children facing disadvantage across the UK. “When you do good, you feel good” 😊 We love the way our corporate partners go above and beyond to help us to tell the world about our mission to transform children’s futures with targeted reading support! 📚 It was brilliant to collaborate with our corporate partner Compare the Market on this video for #VolunteersWeek exploring how the Chapter One Online Reading Volunteers Programme works, why Compare the Market chooses to partner with Chapter One, and how their wonderful volunteers are supporting pupils at Leighton Primary School in Peterborough. For Sara Rolph [Sara R.], CSR Manager at Compare the Market, partnering with Chapter One is aligned to their CSR strategy, allowing them to support the local community. Their wonderful volunteers also benefit from a rewarding, flexible, online volunteering opportunity that slots easily into their working week. Enjoy the video! 👇 Stephanie Lockwood Lou Perkins (She/Her) Ellen Matthews Gilly Hall (nee Moore) #ChapterOne #itallstartswithliteracy #employeewellbeing #socialvalue #socialimpact #socialmobility #literacy #corporatepartnerships #corporatevolunteering #volunteersweek #peterborough

This week, we want to share how Joel implements Seek to Serve in his life in the form of volunteering. Learn more about Joel and what drives him to serve his community here: #S2S #volunteering
Over the summer our Principal Joel Reed received an award from his alma mater, Penn State, for his volunteer work at the university. Volunteering Officer @ Christian Aid | Creative Problem-Solver | Unleashing the Transformative Power of Volunteers
It's Christmas! Well almost. For many of us, we're gearing down in the lead-up to the big day. But for many of our volunteers, especially those involved in local churches, they'll be hitting peak business for the year. If you know or manage a volunteer, here are three ways you could encourage them in this busy time: 1. Send them a Christmas Card signed by the team/office/yourself 2. Take an interest in their Christmas causes. Where are they giving their time, and *why*? 3. Ask about their Christmas plans. Who are they seeing? How will they celebrate the season? Reward and recognition don't always need to be big. Each of these suggestions is small and simple, but that's OK. Because each one communicates that you're thinking of them, that you care about them, and you're interested in what matters to them. And with volunteer recognition, much like Christmas gifts, it's the thought that counts. 🎅 #volunteers #volunteering #christmas

Today is the start of Volunteers Week. This year will see celebrations because it’s 40 years since the week started. That’s a lot of volunteering hours that have been celebrated! Over the years I’ve written several blogs about communicating with volunteers. I’ll pop a link in the comments. If you’ve only got time for the edited highlights version, here are 5 things I wanted my organisation to know when I was a volunteer: 1. Have a clear conversation at the outset to set out not only what is expected of me, but why. 2. Tailor your communications with me to recognise why I choose to get involved and the role that I play while I’m here. 3. Share the stories of the difference I am part of. 4. Listen to me. 5. Recognise that I’m not available all the time. I’m on a break from any volunteering role at the moment, but I fully intend to get back to it in the future. There are so many benefits to both the individual and the organisation. If you’re a volunteer, what are the things that you enjoy most about it? #VolunteersWeek #volunteering #EffectiveCommunication

Feeling honored, grateful, and a touch nervous. 1) Please share any and all board member advice. What do I likely not know that I don’t yet know? (Thank you!) 2) Please ask me about the Sudbury model and, specifically, Saint Louis Sudbury School. This is especially true for parents and guardians who are also systems thinkers and continuous improvement types, as you likely see the opportunities of conventional education systems. Respect humanity. Improve work. Respect children. Improve school. 😉 Bonus points for the Lean/TPS community, assess the practice of continuous improvement and respect for people in your personal experience of schooling. #sudbury #education #continuousimprovement #consciousness #lean #leadership #respectforpeople #tps #consciousleadership #futureofwork #manufacturingexcellence
Saint Louis Sudbury School is excited to announce that Kathryn Belcher has joined our Board of Directors! 🎉 Whether at home, Saint Louis Sudbury School, or work, Kathryn can be found reading, experimenting, and asking questions. Her passion is to facilitate deeply respectful human environments. Enter the Sudbury model where life is education and education is life, where students and adults are all humans, and the pursuit of happiness isn't a "nice to have" but a given. Kathryn views volunteering as a gift she receives each week. She hopes to pay this gift forward by nudging industry towards democratic communities, who prioritize humans and our world. Childhood debates with her father, Student Government, music and the arts, industrial engineering, Lean manufacturing, foster care resourcing, and consciously parenting two Sudbury students - these and many other life experiences have shaped Kathryn. She's grateful to continue being shaped by the Sudbury community. 💙
