Last weekend, I was able to join a 3 day Hackathon organised by UC Women in Tech Society (WiTSoc), CompSpc, ProdSoc and Entre. My team (Angelica S., Philip Dolbel, Caleb Westbury, and Conor Eager) and I, can proudly and humbly say that we were able to achieve 1st Place. Our solution addresses SDG Target - Supply Chain Sustainability.
What's special about this hackathon is what we were able to achieve in the span of 3 days. With the intention of bringing our solution into the world. Our app, SustainAware, enables daily consumers to scan barcodes of products. Once scanned, the app will show bite-size information about the company's sustainability practises such as environmental impact, ethics/labour and many more. With the use of this app, we hope to give power and transparency to consumers that will hopefully influence their own practises.
If you thought this app is super cool and you'd love to see it in action, please don't hesitate to contact me or any from my team to support us. So far we've had awesome feedbacks and we look forward to continue this business model.
I would like to personally thank the various club that brought this hackathon into action, our mentors (Lisa Donning, Jen Stevie, Dinuki Karunasekera and Pete Howard) who all made this hackathon 10000x more enjoyable, as well as to sponsors Blackbird and Partly (Claudia Mansell and Ollie Chick) for lending us their magnificent work-space (AND supplying us unlimited drinks and snacks!!!!!!!! LOL)
**Note: I've added a portion of our winning business pitch on my profile under Portfolio. Though I've removed some slide to keep some information private (because WILL MAKE THIS APP SOON!!).
Over the weekend, WiTSoc together with Entre, UC ProdSoc and University of Canterbury Computer Society (CompSoc) held our 2023 Hackathon!
We couldn’t have done this event without Partly and Blackbird, as well as all the talented mentors that spent their weekend with us, so a massive thank you for all your support! Thank you as well to our amazing judges who had to make some tough decisions when the pitches were presented 🙌
Participants worked together in teams to come up with solutions to improve supply chain sustainability - they discovered new decision-making techniques, attended a laughter-filled pitch workshop and learnt that a hackathon doesn’t actually have to involve coding!
Thank you to everyone that participated in the Hackathon - it was great to meet you all and we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did. The ideas you came up with were so innovative & creative, and we hope to see you again next year! 💭💡
