I help businesses recruit exceptional people across several sectors, but particularly in building products & industrials
We all know that our industry (and the economy in general) is ageing and lacking in diversity: in all its forms. Yes, it's "pale, male and stale". And hey, I'm technically in that group! Well, for 2 out of 3 at least. I'm a big believer in supporting new entrants and young professionals in our industry. I'm also a huge believer in promoting and encouraging diversity - in all its forms - wherever possible. I'm not going to solve this problem by myself, and it will take years. But if we don't start then we're only going to have bigger problems in the future. If we all take some responsibility then we'll start making baby steps. The Builders Merchants Federation Ltd under the excellent leadership of John Newcomb have partnered with Dianne Lucas FCIM and started a fantastic campaign to launch the Building Materials sector - a huge awareness campaign which will shine a spotlight on all the fantastic opportunities in this sector - for school leavers and others further into their careers, for those outside and within the industry. This is a great start. We then need to remove barriers to development and progression. This comes from great leadership. And recognition. Hence why I'm so excited that here at Wilson Brook Consulting we're supporting the BMF & Builders' Merchants News next Top 100 event - the Top 100 Young Achievers - those who are rising through the industry and making their mark on the sector. Nominations will be made via an online form, hosted on the BMN website, with links from the BMF website. Nominees can be self-nominated or nominated by another person from the business. They must be 40 or under on 16 May 2024 (rules me out then!) from across the building materials industry; this can be a merchant, supplier, service supplier or from a buying group. The Top 100 Young Achievers will be celebrated at a black-tie gala dinner on the 16 May 2024, at The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield. We'll be sponsoring the drinks reception and taking a table at the event. Get your nominations in! #futuretalent #celebratesuccess

It's that time of year... Career Planning time! Following our annual review process, our employees dive into career planning with their line manager. It's an opportunity to use the extensive feedback from the annual review process to set new goals and plan for the future. By engaging Tonka Learning, Worrells ensures that our leaders have the skills to partner with their team in this important piece. #CareerConversations #CareerFocused #CareerPlanning #Development #WorrellsVic
Last week we partnered with Worrells to prep both the Principal and Manager groups ahead of their career development conversations with staff. We covered a range of topics including working with staff with different ambitions, giving voice to the conversation, attributes of learning leaders and maintaining focus throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who attended. Special mention to Amanda Hanna and Georgie Harrison for shining a spotlight on such an important development opportunity.

Love this : I think I’ll have a go at this for my QuAlms Haus idea to tackle U.K. plc ‘s 136,000 16-24 young homeless through modular construction on surplus local / public authority land within U.K. plc’s 12 Freeports Idea would be to work as a collective of SoloPreneurs / Micro (1–11 employees) using the Bartercard system as a way of recording your contribution. So if you’re interested and are based within any of the following Freeport/ Greenports 45 km areas just let me know and I’ll connect with you from my 3 Counties Hub and share my mad musings on Linked In just to try to tap into “ The Power of the Crowd” on Linked In. As usual our motto is “ INW” …. “ it’ll never work but something needs to pdq as far as the 136,000 young homeless are concerned. First thing to do is to sign the Parliamentary petition so as to get a debate in the House of Commons - I’ll share in a moment. Let me know if you are interested in participating in any of the following Freeport: Greenport areas …. In effect as a “ social entrepreneur”:- Humber Felixstowe Plymouth Liverpool East Midlands Edinburgh

Are you B Corp ® ? 🤔 Having been in and around a #BCorp application process, I've been thinking about some of the advantages, and maybe even some disadvantages of becoming a B Corp company, (as I see them). ☀ For those who do not know, B Corp is "Purpose-driven branding", it signals to consumers that your organization is committed to social and environmental responsibility, which can enhance your brand reputation and attract like-minded customers. 👩🏽💻 In my role at mustard, I can see how being a B Corp company would attract talent, showing that work will be purpose driven, which can surely only be a good thing, right? 👨👨👧👦 Access to networks: B Corps are part of a global community of businesses committed to using business as a force for good. This network can provide opportunities for collaboration, learning, and sharing best practices - buisness wide, another positive ✅ ⚖ But is it for everyone, and if you have gone down the B Corp pathway, has it helped you? 💵 Balancing financial goals with social and environmental objectives can be challenging, especially in industries where profit maximization is traditionally the primary focus, but obviously it cannot be all about 💰, that wouldn't be very B Corp! 🌳 Rigorous standards: B Corps must meet rigorous social and environmental performance standards set by B Lab, the nonprofit behind the certification. Meeting these standards may require significant changes to business practices which may well be time consuming, and/or costly. 🌍 As somebody who would class themselves as enviromentally conscious and certainly tries to all they can to improve their own little social & environmental corner I B(corp)elive this certification is something many organizations should be persuing. I guess I am just intrigued to hear first hand experiences. And if you are attending this Interaction Ltd | B Corp™ - see you there and whether it's all completed, or you are just starting out on your B Corp journey, would love to chat. #bristol #bath #environment #social
