“One of the things we try to do here is treat all our patients like they’re our own, and sometimes they need this extra nurturing to feel special,” Clinical Nurse Manager Karan Johnson said. “We want to make sure when our patients come in, they feel heard, and they feel seen." Creating moments of normalcy during a hospital stay can make all the difference for our patients. Thanks to a dedicated group of staff, Akron Children's has a wide variety of hair care and hygiene products to better meet the needs of patients of all races, ethnicities and hair textures. The staff also take the time to sit with patients and assist with their haircare while getting to know them better. Shout out to the staff from the pediatric unit on our Boardman campus, who received some great feedback from a patient family!   "First of all, I would like to say that I loved how colorful and cheery the unit was. We loved the positive vibe! I want to recognize and thank all the doctors, nursing staff and the secretary for caring for my son. They were very caring, gave very thorough care and explained what they were doing and why.    I want to give a special shout out to the night nurses who decorated his room and left him a card and gifts for his birthday to make him feel special. I also want to give a special recognition to his nurse, Summer, and the day secretary who took time to make me a cup of coffee in the morning.
