It was great to kick off the Summit with a deep discussion of how #leadership is changing. Key themes were the need to: create #agility in the face of rapid change, be ambitious in support of #diversity, co-create solutions, & embrace core competencies of empathy, trust & authenticity.
And we’re off. Delighted that the first day is here and nearly 600 delegates from 50 nations for Times Higher Education World Academic Summit are warmly welcomed to country and into our official program. Star first panel moderated by Phil Baty on The Next Generation Leadership Model with Misha Schubert Cheryl Regehr and Simone Clarke. #thewas

Classroom Teacher - Prep to Year Four Learning Leader at Christian College Geelong - Always trying to ‘make it happen’
Such an important role to have in schools. Coaching and mentoring needs to be built into teaching and learning leadership roles.
Schools should formally appoint experienced teachers to ‘coach’ their colleagues, to help reduce high dropout rates in the profession while also improving student outcomes. This is the view of a national body promoting excellence in teaching and school leadership, which commended a Melbourne primary school’s approach of creating dedicated teaching and learning leader roles as a successful example. We must ensure that teachers of all phases feel confident teaching the arts, and have access to opportunities to increase skills and competences throughout a teaching career – including at leadership level. Our Manifesto asks for the 2024 #GeneralElection to set out the course correction necessary to halt and reverse the decline in Expressive Arts education that our annual Report Card has underlined. https://buff.ly/3WXLyMY

In case you missed it, here's the recording of the webinar on The African Leadership University with Veda Sunassee. (...actually, the most entertaining part of the event was before the webinar, when Isak Frumin and Veda were discussing Mauritius' philatelic culture. Alas, that didn't make it to the recording.) #InnovativeUniversities

With the independent sector coming under increasing pressure to offer a substantial difference from free alternatives, innovative curricula and approaches to assessment will become increasingly important. To get a different output, you need a different input. Academic leaders who have wider perspectives will be the engine that drives this change.
The 2024/2025 Independent Schools’ Qualification in Academic Management (ISQAM) & Pastoral Leadership Qualification (PLQ) can now be booked here: https://buff.ly/3RpoLVL. At HMC (The Heads' Conference) we're particularly pleased to be working with Tony Emmerson at The English College in Prague - Anglické gymnázium to deliver an all new #ISQAMEurope Wider Perspectives course.
