RFIs Requests for further information or requests for information (RFIs) are something that can assist or hold up development approvals.    How many RFIs does it take to change a lightbulb?    I currently have a project where the certifier for a construction certificate application has asked for further information seven, yes seven, times. The application has been in assessment for two years.    They keep changing their mind about what is required for the project.    Also have you ever heard of a certifier to not even start assessing a construction certificate application until a planning modification was determined? The modification process took four months.   Councils assessing DAs take months to produce an RFI and then give the applicant seven days to provide information before they threaten to refuse the application or request the application be withdrawn. If the information is provided within seven days, then council will take another few months to assess it before asking for yet another RFI.    What has this world come to? 6. REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) This is very common term which is used in construction industry. When a contractor is making the shop drawings, if he found a discrepancy he shall write to the consultant for clarification. That is known as RFI. Did you know that under the NEC 4 form of contract, it is possible for both the Project Manager and the Supervisior to delegate their actions? Yes, clause 14.2 allows this. If the Project Manager or the Supervisor intend to do this, they must notify the Contractor, the notification must contain the name of the delegate and the details of of the actions being delegated (or indeed any cancellation of delegation). Why is this important? Well for anyone who has used the NEC form of contract, there is a lot of work and administration involved and it takes a team to run this contract sucessfully. On major contracts, it would be quite normal for both the Project Manager and the Supervisor to have staff to help them carryout their duties.
