KENTLEDGE VS YJACK BI-DIRECTIONAL PILE LOAD TEST?
.
.
.
.
Static load testing is an in situ type of load testing used in geotechnical investigation to determine the bearing capacity of deep foundations prior to the construction of a building.
.
There are several types of static load tests which are using Kentledge Method and YJACK Bi-Directional Method.
.
Kentledge Method is using concrete blocks, iron weights or even sand bags as weights and locating piston jacks in between the weights and the pile.
.
Meanwhile, YJACK Bi-Directional Method is locating sacrificial and embedded hydraulic jack is cast within the pile body. Upon application of load, the pile is separated into two sections and load is applied to both sections simultaneously and reacting against each other in two directions.
.
Practically, the YJACK Bi-Directional pile test does not require reaction beams, anchor piles or Kentledge during load applying. However, technically YJACK Bi-Directional is equivalent to Kentledge method. Both serve similar purpose!
