It takes a scorecard to keep track of the movers and shakers in the open RAN RIC (RAN Intelligent Controller) ecosystem, so here’s a cheat sheet from my latest report, ”Self-Organizing Networks and RAN Intelligent Control – 2024.” The research surveyed 16 vendors and included additional partners where mentioned. We noted that the number of operator engagements in the RIC ecosystem has doubled from last year, which is a prelude to commercial deployments. VMware remains the leading RIC platform vendor with the most 3rd party app vendors signed on board, but the Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform has made impressive gains since last year. AirHop retains its undisputed lead as the app vendor on the most RIC platform partners. We expect this ecosystem to exceed $1bn in revenue by 2028.
