I'm humbled to officially welcome the first cohort of ventures and entrepreneurs we'll be supporting in year 1 of our Unreasonable Food partnership. It's estimated that more than 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activity can be attributed to the way we produce, process, and package food. As one of the world’s largest food companies with some of the world’s most admired brands, Mars, together with the entrepreneurs we are supporting, is uniquely positioned to put that statistic where it belongs — in a museum. Press release - https://lnkd.in/ggN4nZhh Read about each of the ventures selected - https://lnkd.in/gDSRtv4y It's hard to imagine a better cohort of ventures to be supporting in our shared desire to collectively set a new standard for sustainability in our food systems: Mootral, Yard Stick PBC, Regrow Ag, LandScan, Nitricity, Absolute®, Xampla, LOLIWARE Inc., Farmerline Group, 80 Acres Farms, MycoTechnology, Inc., Voyage Foods, String Bio Private Limited, Air Protein, Sea Forest

🌱💡 Transforming Food Systems: Shifting Power Dynamics for Change! 🍽️🌍 https://lnkd.in/dS3hFQSp The need to revolutionize our food systems demands a reimagining of power dynamics. How do we foster this change? It starts by embracing a systemic view—a holistic approach that transcends reductionist perspectives. To truly transform food systems, we must pivot towards a multidisciplinary approach. It's not just about what's on our plates but understanding the intricate web of relationships, from farm to table and beyond. Shifting power dynamics involves empowering diverse voices, fostering inclusivity, and dismantling traditional hierarchies. It's about amplifying the voices of small-scale farmers, indigenous communities, and marginalized groups, ensuring they're at the forefront of decision-making. Let's cultivate collaborations across disciplines—bringing together agriculture, economics, health, policy, and beyond—to create a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable food ecosystem. There is only one way to solve the challenge of feeding 10 billion people sustainably – together. At Ragn-Sells, we contribute to a more sustainable food system by developing circular solutions for key agricultural nutrients. We offer technology for producing clean phosphorus and nitrogen from sewage. We turn fish poop from aquaculture into energy and fertiliser, and extract potassium from the ashes from waste incineration. But we bring only one piece of the jigsaw. We know that actors all around the food world are working hard to find more sustainable ways of feeding a growing planet. With the 10 Billion Challenge Initiative, we aim to bring together businesses, innovators, and entrepreneurs to form circular partnerships and showcase the solutions they bring to the table. Let’s change food together! Join us in tackling the 10 Billion Challenge today. 👇 #10BillionChallenge

So there is no real option here. Tomorrow global leaders will come together in #rome at the « Food Systems Summit +2 » to take stock of what’s being done concretely, shine light on new and innovative approaches to financing food systems transformation and hopefully garner the necessary commitments to reach our common goals. GFFN is co-organizing the side event from Planet Tracker "A roadmap to align food and finance to the 2030 Agenda and climate goals", in collaboration with Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU) and The Rockefeller Foundation at the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment (https://lnkd.in/gmVRVGwJ). 🗓Monday, 24th July, 18:00-19:00 CEST 🔗 register now: https://lnkd.in/eX7gzJyv 📍Virtual The food system as a whole needs to follow a pathway to achieve sustainability by 2050, given its current negative impact on climate, nature and society. Unless food systems are transformed, humanity will be unable to limit temperature increases to 1.5ºC by 2050, and to restore nature and achieve the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (including ‘zero hunger’) before 2030. In particular, financial institutions need to deploy their firepower to support such transformation. If done inclusively and sustainably such a transformation could unlock $4.5 trillion a year in new business opportunities. Join this virtual side event to learn more and join the discussion! Transforming Agrifood Systems: A Call for Collaboration and Innovation Our global food system is a marvel of intricate connections – farmers, processors, distributors, retailers, and consumers all intertwined. Yet, it's a system under strain. Climate change, unstable markets, food loss and waste, and a lack of transparency threaten its stability. Those who work in the system, from rural producers to business innovators and consumers, face a complex reality and need to be supported to innovate. To ensure a future of inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems, we must: Foster Collaboration: Unite diverse stakeholders across the food system for greater resilience. Champion Innovation: Provide integrated services for innovation to drive solutions and empower all actors. Promote Transparency: Ensure informed decision-making and accountability throughout the system. Prioritize Sustainability: Minimize environmental impact, ensuring food security for generations. Let's ignite a discussion about transforming agrifood systems. How can we best support collaboration, innovation, and sustainability within this vital sector? Be inspired by our new publication, https://lnkd.in/d_wNR86e, part of #Policy frontiers fueling agrifood systems innovation series. #agrifoodsystems #foodsecurity #innovation #collaboration #sustainability

"Our food systems are at the centre of some of the biggest challenges of our time, which means they must also be at the centre of our quest for solutions. As we work to solve the Great Food Puzzle, innovations are key to unlocking the potential of food systems as solutions to the nature and climate crises." Arrell Chair in Food, Policy and Society, Philip Loring, worked with WWF to create an innovation framework that can help decision-makers consider the scale of change that needs to be applied in a specific food system and the innovation that will deliver it most quickly. 🌟 The Strategic Allies Limited Tech Spotlight for April is The Wonki Collective, a young UK company, on a mission to end food supply chain waste across the UK and beyond. We came across The Wonki Collective team at the pitching final of "The Greenhouse" accelerator programme in late 2023, run by Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation – and they won! 🍽 Food waste has become one of the biggest environmental issues and contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. Besides contributing to climate change, food loss is a waste of the natural resources that were used to produce it, including energy, water, and fuel. There are currently more than 800 million people facing hunger worldwide and yet, about one-third of global food supplies are wasted or lost. Food companies are under greater scrutiny to reduce their carbon footprint and address the issues related to the industry. 🏭 The Wonki Collective is working with manufacturers to identify and redistribute surplus ingredients that would otherwise never make it into products bound for the supermarket shelf. The company is building a B2B matchmaking software platform enabling UK food and drink manufacturers to track food loss in their supply chain, with the objective of reducing food waste and turning it into profit. ➡ To find out more… https://lnkd.in/eWTWY--g 🏆 Well done to The Wonki Collective team Alina Sartogo, Dini McGrath & Jonathan Quicke - we'll be keeping a close eye on your progress! #ClimateChange #FoodWaste #Sustainability #Innovation Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation is a partnership between The Royal Institution and Imperial College London
