The recent "The State of Carbon Dioxide Removal — Edition 2" report highlights the eminent need of science based technologies for carbon removal to reach net zero. Here are a few key takeaways from the report: 1. Rapid emission reductions and a near-term scale-up of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) are necessary to meet the Paris Agreement's temperature goals. The report highlights the need for 7-9 GtCO2 removals per year by 2050, with cumulative removals of 170 GtCO2 between 2020 and net-zero CO2. 2. CDR deployment is currently low but expected to grow. Research grants, publications, and high-value inventions related to CDR have increased significantly, indicating growing innovation. However, challenges like financial bottlenecks and scientific uncertainties hinder scaling up CDR. 3. Companies have announced ambitious plans for scaling up novel CDR methods like direct air capture and bioenergy with carbon capture and storage. These announcements project removing up to 11 GtCO2 annually by 2050, implying a 40% compound annual growth rate. You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/d97fNnEE

Aircapture is thrilled to bring our technology overseas, partnering with 44.01 to launch Project Hajar in Oman as part of the #XPrizeCarbonRemoval competition. This is an opportunity to explore new markets through strong global partnerships leveraging combined expertise. We’ll be working closely with 44.01 to utilize their cutting edge sequestration technology in remote mountains that provide some of the best large scale subsurface mineralization in the world for the permanent removal of atmospheric carbon. Fun fact: This regional geologic formation alone has sufficient storage capacity to meet the carbon removal targets identified by the IPCC. If you’re looking for an answer to scalable climate change solutions - here it is! #XPrizeCarbonRemoval #CDR #mineralization #sequestration

Excited to share our latest #Voices_article on #DirectAirCapture (#DAC) technology published in #CHEM Cell Press, a player in tackling climate change. Unlike traditional #carboncapture, DAC removes #CO2 directly from the atmosphere, which can be vital for meeting #ParisAgreement goals. We've gathered insights from top industry (Matt Atwood, Claude Letourneau, ICD.D, Christoph Beuttler, Carlos Haertel, and Jillian Evanko) to discuss the recent advancements and actions in DAC projects worldwide. This piece is essential for anyone keen on the future of #sustainabletechnology and #environmental solutions. Check out the article to discover how the DAC industry is shaping a #greenerfuture. Thank you to the World Policy Conference for recently hosting Aircapture and providing a platform for Matt Atwood, CEO & Founder, to shed light on the pivotal role of engineered #carbondioxideremoval (CDR) technologies. Matt discussed the significance of carbon credit policy and off-take mechanisms in scaling project finance, emphasizing the need for a mature carbon market, "For the finance of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) technology, it's crucial to carefully consider emerging policy solutions and industry standards. While frameworks like the ICVCM's CCPs contribute to transparency and market trust, there's a need to balance requirements for additionality and permanence. It's worth noting that limiting engineered CDR technologies, like DAC, in industrial decarbonization scenarios may unintentionally hinder progress. Non-permanence applications, especially in CO2 utilization pathways, can have a substantial net carbon reduction impact compared to permanent applications, particularly when addressing high carbon intensity in the incumbent CO2 supply." To foster progress, CCPs should differentiate between nature-based and engineering-based solutions. These insights were shared and appreciated at the World Policy Conference and Capgemini Invent. We look forward to continuing these vital conversations. #cdr #carbonmarket #climateaction #climatetech #worldpolicyconference2023 #capgemini
