We reached a groundbreaking agreement in Europe with Bunge to increase access to raw materials for the production of our #RenewableFuels. These fuels are key to accelerate the #decarbonization of transport at an affordable cost for the user. Thanks to this alliance, we are boosting production in Spain. Our goal is to reach a production capacity of 1.7 million tonnes of #RenewableFuels by 2027. An important step forward that supports our commitment to offer society alternatives for mobility. https://lnkd.in/g9ba3m5R

Borealis Invests €4.5 Million in Porvoo Steam Cracker Borealis plans to invest €4.5 million in the cracker furnaces of its olefins unit in Porvoo, #Finland. This project, Borealis said, is to ensure that the Porvoo #steamcracker, which is part of a highly integrated #petrochemical complex, can increase the share of renewable and recycled raw materials used in its base chemicals – i.e., ethylene and propylene – production. The Porvoo investment, expected to be completed in 2025, follows last year’s completion of a major cracker furnace update at Borealis’ site in Stenungsund, Sweden. The steam cracker in Porvoo has a nameplate capacity of 430 kt/y ethylene and 263 kt/y #propylene. With the investment, three of the ten cracker furnaces in the olefins unit will be modified to enable a total annual production of 120 kt of base chemicals based on renewable and recycled feedstocks. Japan's Trade and Industry Ministry (Meti) plans to review a new sustainability programme for fuels used for power generation. The review will be conducted under the country's feed-in-premium and feed-in-tariff schemes. The UK-based Vive #sustainability supply programme requested the working group led by Meti to review their verification programme, which is designed to assess and verify the sustainability of an entire supply chain through a third-party review. It is unclear to which #fuels the programme will be applied. Meti is also examining other sustainability schemes for palm oil and palm kernel shells. The entire palm kernel shell and palm trunk supply chain is mandated to acquire sustainability certifications by the end of March 2024, but oil mills have struggled with only 27% of them certified by July. Meti did not clarify whether to extend the deadline further at the meeting on August 23.

Great, congratulations Lars-Gunnar Almryd, Envigas AB and Outokumpu and as I remember the Swedish steel industry only use around 14 TWh of fossil coal. That's less than ten percent of the current use of bioenergy in Sweden. It is also not so much compared to the unused volumes of Swedish sustainable biomass. It is actually not even 25 percent of a low estimate of Swedish unused forest residues from harvest and thinning material in ordinary Swedish forest management.
🟢 Switching from the use of fossil raw materials to biomass-based alternatives is a key driver in emission reduction in the #StainlessSteel industry. 🔗 Value-chain integration is a key priority in our strategy to strengthen the supply chain of sustainable raw materials for the future. ➡️ Therefore, we signed an agreement to become a shareholder in Envigas AB, a leading European producer of biocarbon, with an ownership share of 20%. In a groundbreaking collaboration with GCMD and EPS, we recently bunkered LPG dual-fuel carrier Kaupang with a B30 sustainable #biofuelblend with an added physical fuel tracer. Sailing on LPG requires a pilot fuel first. Replacing this fossil-based pilot fuel with #sustainablebiofuel reduces emissions and is a scalable solution from a holistic perspective, as the feedstocks are waste and residue-based only. For GCMD, this successful third supply chain bunkering of a #biofuel blend is part of a broader pilot to develop a quality, quantity and GHG abatement assurance framework for drop-in #greenfuels. In this most recent trial, GCMD collaborated with GoodFuels, Control Union and IDS to deploy an element-based #fueltracer in the HVO component of the fuel to assure its origination and quantity in the biofuel blend. → Read more about this innovative project here › fuels.to/gcmd #fueltracing #GoodFuels #BetterWorld Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation | Eastern Pacific Shipping Pte. A key focus of Cemex’s #FutureinAction strategy is to evolve our production processes to help reduce our carbon footprint 👣 As part of our pledge to become #NetZero by 2050, we’ve set out processes on how to decarbonise our operations across the EMEA region: Increasing use of alternative fuels ⬆️ Reducing clinker factor in cement production ⬇️ Using more renewable and cost-effective energy 💡 Using more decarbonated materials ♻️ Earlier this year, CEMEX Philippines achieved a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions generated by its two cement subsidiaries since 1990, the highest emissions reduction in industry based on public declarations. Our Filipino operations also saw an 18% reduction in its net CO2 emissions between 2020 and 2022 alone, further signalling our commitments to building a better and more sustainable future. #CemexEMEA #BuildingABetterFuture
