Surreal weekend in Boston. As someone who frankly didn’t have the best relationship with academia growing up, being invited to Harvard Business School isn’t something I ever thought would be a reality. Over the two days, I met and learned from countless people who are worthy of mentioning and look forward to staying connected with. I’ve also got a mountain of notes and learns I could share, but thought I would summarise some things that really hit home personally, the overall theme being “Building a better business for tomorrow”. Starting with Simeen Mohsen and Tommy Amaker, Head Coach of Harvard Basketball fireside talk about leadership. The key principals of Teach, Learn, Serve was something that resonated with me, alongside the ideology of good teams have good players but a great team has great teammates. I also found Tommy’s one bit of actionable advice “Try to get to know someone who doesn’t look like you” worth sharing. Having a chance to learn from Jill Avery in a more intimate setting centered around Personal Branding and building a Digital community was also super insightful. I’ve got half a book of notes but in particular, I found the discussion around having a strong product market fit with deep engagement and the ladder from features to values, really put into perspective some of the key objectives over the next couple of months. Naturally, I was very excited to hear Jen Stave, PhD and Christopher Wm. Linnane's live podcast recording of The Parlor Room about everything AI. I’m excited to continue following (D^3)’s Digital Data Design (D^3) Institute at Harvard work on addressing how AI is transforming business and society. Without throwing out any spoilers, Jen’s philosophy around understanding the role academia plays in determining what is fact and fiction alongside some of the real life case-studies in Healthtech is super interesting. I’ll be joining Tuesday! Listening to Cristina de la Cierva, Mike Toffel and Forest L. Reinhardt discuss how businesses need to think about Climate change, but more importantly work together to make some solutions that already exist more accessible and cost friendly was again thought-provoking. I’ll be giving Mike’s podcast a listen over the month and if you haven’t already followed Evergreen Talent Partners, please do – an industry we are equally passionate about making a difference in. I also left excited about the value proposition we have from an AI, Machine Learning and Software Engineering talent solutions perspective at both Stott and May and Stott and May Consulting – and how we can play our part in all of it. Thanks again to Patrick Mullane. I’m looking forward to next year already! #HBSOnlineConnext
