Canada to deploy a $2.4 billion to secure Canada’s Artificial Intelligence advantage. These investments will accelerate job growth in Canada’s AI sector and beyond, boost productivity by helping researchers and businesses develop and adopt AI, and ensure this is done responsibly

  I fear that UK SMEs don’t have adequate access to emerging technologies, such as GenAI, due to a lack of financial and knowledge resources. If businesses across the UK are not equally able to use innovative technologies, large organisations will accelerate their market lead, resulting in potential digital inequality. That’s why I was disappointed to see no mention of increased tax relief for expenditure on digital services in today’s Autumn Statement. The billion-dollar question for AI compute resources: hot from the Singapore Budget 2024 announcement - $1 billion will be put aside for talent and infrastructural development. I guess the details will emerge over the next few weeks when different government ministries detail their spending for 2024. Is $1 billion enough? Related to talent development is the $4000 top up skills development fund for executives aged 40 and above. It’s a good move, can be used for many AI-related courses for people, and there are several here and overseas.

Singapore is investing significantly in AI to empower its workforce for the future. The government has earmarked up to $500 million for advanced hardware to support AI initiatives. A portion of this fund, at least $27 million, will be allocated for building AI expertise. The initiative includes offering 100 AI scholarships to Singaporean students and attracting global experts to collaborate with the country. The significant financial commitment underscores the country's commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and ensuring the resilience and adaptability of its workforce in the face of evolving industry demands. Luxembourg, our small country without a coastline or oil reserves, has consistently transformed challenges into opportunities. Using our intellect, we've consistently prospered as a nation. Look at examples like RTL which has evolved from a local radio and TV station into a major European broadcaster, and SES Satellites a leading satellite company that originated here as a state backed startup. These success stories demonstrate how Luxembourg has leveraged its unique position in Europe to trial innovative ideas and then propagate them across the continent. Now, I see an immense opportunity for Luxembourg to become a global hub for artificial intelligence (AI). We've got all the right ingredients - robust digital rights, secure and trusted networks, and a resilient digital market. Plus, we have data centers and connectivity , a vital resource for AI projects. However, seizing this opportunity will require changes. We need to upgrade our data centers for higher density and decrease the distribution cost of electricity. This will ensure we can accommodate and nurture large, global AI projects right here in Luxembourg. Succesfull AI companies as Gcore and Talkwalker have shown it is possible. AI may appear daunting, but it's not something we should fear. Instead, we should embrace this opportunity and strive to turn Luxembourg into a pivotal player in the digital world. Importantly, by leading in AI, we can shape its development according to our European ethical values, ensuring technology benefits society. This is not just my vision. I believe our government, the University and business leaders should come together to create an environment that fosters ambitious Luxembourg driven AI projects and propels them onto the world stage. I see us attracting the best talent to our country, stimulating our tech industry and our society. Luxembourg has a rich history of turning adversity into opportunity. I'm confident we're ready to do it again, collectively. Let's strive for a bright, sustainable future for Luxembourg using the world of AI.
