This catalytic thinking framework seems very applicable to educational, as well as social, innovation: for designing curriculum and how we structure our organisations. ‘While most social innovations aim at innovative actions, the “catalytic thinking” framework aims at the thinking behind those actions— the beliefs and assumptions that invisibly inform every decision people make. In analyzing those assumptions and beliefs, we see that they are actually answers to questions we don’t realize we’re asking.’ Thanks for sharing, Jeremy Mayall #catalyticthinking #curiosity #socialinnovation #educationalinnovation https://lnkd.in/gPRMH25B

A big goal in creating the online and self-paced version of our Social Impact Measurement and Management Accreditation course was to increase accessibility and share our decade of learnings as widely and practically as possible. Receiving feedback like this from recent graduate Sally Pitson is solidifying that choice! "I recently completed The Social Impact Measurement course, and I must say it was an excellent experience. Here's why: > Clarity and Simplicity: The course content is delivered in a straightforward and easy-to-understand manner. Concepts were explained without unnecessary jargon, making it accessible to learners of all backgrounds. > Self-Paced Learning: The self-paced format allowed me to learn at my own speed. I appreciated the flexibility to revisit modules and dive deeper into specific topics as needed. > Practical Application: As someone passionate about measuring the impact of our programs, this course was invaluable. It provided practical tools and techniques to strengthen our ability to measure wellbeing outcomes effectively. Overall, I highly recommend The Social Impact Measurement course to anyone interested in making a positive difference in their community. Kudos to the instructors for creating such a valuable learning experience!" If you'd like to learn more about the course yourself. I recall some time ago being on a panel where what I said to this given audience was considered a provocation. And what did I have to say? That value in the built environment extends beyond what we can put figures against. So I’ve read with a keen interest this article on a critical enquiry into added value and numerical measurement as it applies to social value. Ani Raiden and Andrew King make the case which is worth spending some time on. Key points include: - The concept of social value has evolved rapidly and legislation is a key driver - A critical engagement with the numerical measurement of social value as added value - While legislation and policy create the drive, the emphasis is on measuring social value, and added value, in numerical terms - The authors point out that due to the contextual approach, there can be variability in use of terms etc which can make it difficult for project partners to understand, agree and meet differing requirements (yes, yes and yes!) - 'Current policy is sending mixed messages about the importance of local specificity, while at the same time creating a framework of universalist requirements’ - That focusing on numerical terms tends to lead to a focus on activities that can easily be converted into figures (yep, and lots of reasons why this is a big problem) - And the killer point for me is that we need to ‘find a useful place for creating as well as assessing and measuring social value using qualitative methodologies and sharing powerful stories in addition to numerical data.’ - Co-creation, participative design etc are critical - Critical engagement with the SDGs - Who makes the decisions about what gets measured? And yes, I get the need to attach numbers to activities but it is more complex. In working with clients, I’m always clear that while it’s easy to put a number against some things i.e. no of appreticeships, local spend etc; this should not dictate activities being undertaken. And here we bring in the importance of using both quantitative and qualitative data, and applying all the necessary caveats to both. #esg #esginrealestate #socialvalue Gemma John, PhDTilly Crowhurst - another one you'll find of interest https://lnkd.in/eF-m-XYW

I am happy to launch my website with my first blog post examining the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement (distribution) in social impact. The summary: - Addressing complex social challenges demands a distributed approach, engaging diverse stakeholders in problem-solving. This method enhances understanding, fosters innovation, and broadens solution benefits, especially for global "grand challenges" like climate change. - Yet, distribution comes with challenges including managing stakeholder dynamics and group-think inefficiencies. Having effective structures with facilitative, transformational, and systems leadership are the key to harnessing multi-stakeholder engagement within resource constraints. Keep following for more discussions about how to make positive social impact! P.S (This post was adapted shamelessly from my MBA assignment) https://lnkd.in/eHaVuVzQ
