...and how many of us mask our mental health problems until crisis point?
Seeking professional help early can prevent mental illness from becoming serious.
When mild symptoms first appear, try self-help materials, such as wellbeing apps, relaxation, and mindfulness. Talk to family members or friends, and ensure you spend some of your time doing something you enjoy.
If symptoms are getting a hold on you, guided self-help can be effective - a professional to support your access to self-help materials, with regular check ins.
If your daily life is becoming affected by depressive or anxious thoughts, feelings, and physiological symptoms, such as tearfulness, over or under eating/sleeping etc, medication plus cognitive behaviour therapy is often the best course of action.
Take care, take action.

1moHi Aetna, a CVS Health Company. Another good way to control costs is to give children access to disease modifying medications that are off label. You are a poor performer in this area. You keep calling “off label” use of medications as “experimental” and my patients with Aetna plans suffer (and rack up healthcare costs) because they have to wait for me to fight back. Eventually I will win all of these, but it takes weeks to months. Cathy (Mary) Moffitt, MD, FAAP, CHIE you guys have some work to do in this space. I promise you will save money. Oh, and children will suffer less. Please DM me to discuss my current 7 year old patient who is about to get admitted to the hospital while we wait 16 calendar days for an urgent appeal.
