Siemens Energy Engineer | Life Long Learner | 1st Generation American | Passionate About Making a Difference
When it comes to the topic of energy. Most people are more familiar with generation. Most growing up in the American education system have learned that our electricity is produced with gas turbines, wind farms, nuclear reactors, etc, but no matter the form of energy we use, they all depend on Large Power Transformers (LPTs) to get that electricity to homes, businesses, schools, and hospitals. Large Power Transformers are vital to a strong & reliable grid, and a strong & reliable grid is vital to American energy & national security. A huge issue is that over 80% of Large Power Transformers are imported, which causes extremely long lead times! That's why this news, that Siemens Energy will be building the transformers locally, in Charlotte, North Carolina, is a game changer! The factory has been around for decades building massive pieces of technology for the generation side of the business. The Charlotte factory is already at the pinnacle of manufacturing with one of the biggest facilities I've ever seen with an incredibly experienced team. This extension of the Charlotte factory will create 475 direct operating jobs and 285 construction jobs. Plus it will create an additional 84 jobs in Raleigh, North Carolina over the next three years. This a huge win for the state of North Carolina, all of the United States, and the whole energy industry as many push for a reliable, affordable, and clean future! #energyindustry #teampurple #newjob
NEWS: Siemens Energy will expand its operations in NC, creating a total of 559 new jobs. Senior Business Development Manager - ENGIE North America (A clean energy company delivering integrated, renewable and low-carbon energy solutions with a customer focus)
Pittsburgh-based Essential Utilities is selling three local microgrid and distributed energy projects to energy firm Cordia for $165 million. The projects in Pittsburgh Allegheny County include microgrid and district energy systems originally developed by Peoples Gas. The microgrid is at #Pittsburgh #International #Airport and was a highly publicized development during its construction and commissioning over the past few years. The PIA microgrid is centered on a 21.25-MW gas-fired generation plant powering airport operations. The system is grid-tied into the PJM Interconnection. Essential Utilities is selling #unregulated #market assets to focus on its regulated territories. Other larger utilities such as Duke Energy and American Electric Power have enacted similar divestments recently, seeing the investment for distributed energy resources as too risky and uncertain in unregulated markets. Unregulated markets allow for third party ownership of microgrids and create a more competitive landscape for customers to optimize their energy costs. If recent coverage by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg News makes one thing clear, it's that US electric utilities have their work cut out for them. Across the country, the power needs of homes and businesses are growing alarmingly fast. And both the performance of the grid and, not for nothing, the size of our utility bills hang in the balance. Obviously, we've got to keep building renewable power systems, utility-scale batteries to store that power, and the poles and wires needed to deliver it to you and me. But that takes time we don't have and, in some cases, capital that may be better spent elsewhere. That's why we need more virtual power plants (VPPs). With several hundred VPPs active across North America, we have plenty of evidence that these aggregated networks of EVs, smart thermostats, electric heat pumps, rooftop solar plus storage systems, and other remotely controllable and operable devices can keep the grid humming along. But utilities and third-party VPP operators alike will struggle to realize the full potential of this readily available, demand-side grid resource without some assistance on the regulatory side. Fortunately, the folks at the RMI-backed Virtual Power Plant Partnership (VP3) have some actionable guidance. To see what I'm talking about, check out the latest from Liza Martin, Mary Tobin, EIT, WELL AP, Avery McEvoy, EIT, Angela Kent and Joe Bourg in POWER magazine. It wouldn't hurt to take a look at RMI's "VPP Policy Principles," too: https://lnkd.in/gyrfqQDX
Recent headlines have made clear: demand for #electricity is booming. ⚡ And there are some utilities, grid operators, and policymakers who are searching for solutions to keep up and ensure the dependability, affordability, and sustainability of electric service for homes and businesses alike. Fortunately, as experts with the RMI-backed Virtual Power Plant Partnership (VP3) write for POWER magazine, utilities and regulators in #California, #NewEngland, and elsewhere are showing that we can address these challenges by making better use of the infrastructure and equipment already at our disposal. Because with enabling policies and scalable programs, aggregations of dispatchable distributed energy resources can be designed, deployed, and adapted to multiple challenges. For more, check out the latest from RMI’s Liza Martin, Mary Tobin, EIT, WELL AP, Avery McEvoy, EIT, and their VP3 colleagues at EnergyHub and Olivine, Inc.. https://lnkd.in/eDYD3eRg
