As we come towards the end of National Apprenticeship week, we would like to introduce Mohammad, we caught up with him to find out how his journey has been so far 🎉
◼ How long have you been at SSG?
I’ve been with SSG since 2022, I’m now in my final year.
◼ What is your role?
I am a rotational Apprentice which means I have been gaining experience in various departments like Shop Floor (Assembly & Soldering), Testing, SED (Systems Engineering Design & Planning), Sales and Maintenance to understand how all the SSG departments come together as a team to provide revolutionary engineering solutions to customers.
◼ What made you chose to join SSG?
The reason I chose to join SSG to pursue a career in engineering is because they are allowing me to develop the skills, I will need to succeed both in the workplace and academically. Before I joined SSG I completed my Level 3 in Engineering, and I did not know if I wanted to go to university or do an apprenticeship.
I have been given the opportunity to complete higher education at Level 4 HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering with possibility of going even further and also gain industry standard training in engineering of the healthcare and custodial sector at the same time which interested me to take this path to start my career in engineering and see where it will lead me in the future.
◼ What is your advice for future apprentices?
The advice I would give to other future apprentices would be:
◾ Stay up to date with the academic side of the apprenticeship. Remember, all the hard work you put in now will be worth it in the end when you achieve the qualification and secure a job
◾ Ask questions whenever you are confused, it will build your confidence in the workplace as being new may seem daunting, it’s really not
◾ Always try to take notes when you can whilst learning a new thing so then you can repeat the process yourself until you are competent at the task(s). This will show that you are enthusiastic and taking control of your learning
