Aerodynamic testing of Reaction Engines Hypersonic Test Bed (HTB) concept at cruise conditions of Mach 5 and 30 million unit Reynolds number is complete. During the experimental campaign conducted at the VKI-H3 hypersonic wind tunnel of von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics, tests with varying angles of attack and Reynolds numbers are conducted employing internal force & moment balance measurements in order to quantify flight performance characteristics. Now the post processing journey begins for providing an experimental data base to the H2020 MORE&LESS consortium, hitting an important milestone in pursuit of realizing high-speed civil aviation! https://lnkd.in/ejYiK94n This read (10-15 minutes) is a bit longer that my typical posts but well worth it for anyone interested in satellite acoustic testing. DFAN stands for Direct Field Acoustic Noise, which is an alternate method to RFAN (Reverberant Field Acoustic Noise) testing that had traditionally been done to qualify satellites prior to launch. This testing is absolutely necessary as anything launched into space experiences high levels of acoustically induced vibrations from the launch vehicle inside the faring. Even if you aren't in aerospace, this is still pretty interesting!
