💭 Can Virtual Reality (VR) enhance empathy and knowledge retention? 💭 🌟 Empathy isn't just a soft skill; it's a crucial factor driving innovation, engagement, and inclusivity in the workplace says Tracy Brower, PhD in a Forbes article. She highlights research underscoring the significance of empathy in fostering positive relationships and organizational cultures. Also, seeing things from another person’s perspective can help deliver tangible results, studies show. 🏠Add to that recent research from Stanford University's Virtual Human Interaction Lab suggests that experiencing scenarios in VR can lead to longer-lasting compassion and understanding. Participants who engaged with VR scenarios like "Becoming Homeless" developed enduring positive attitudes toward homelessness. They were also more likely to support initiatives for affordable housing. 🌍So how does this play out at INSEAD? One example is a case study looking at MiracleFeet, a not-for-profit supporting treatment of children born with clubfoot, a foot defect, in Tanzania, India and Paraguay. With VR, students experience the challenges facing the children, their families and healthcare professionals. This type of set-up would encounter several roadblocks that are unrelated to the speed at which the human-robot pair can perform tasks (admittedly at a really slow rate of speed in this video). They include: * Connectivity-Related Issues: I assume that the company would employ people from low-income countries. This would require both the organization and the foreign workers to maintain continuous Internet coverage at their locations. That might work for the company (assuming it is located in an urban/suburban area in a developed country), but the human worker's Internet connection might not be as reliable. * Regulatory Issues: These problems vary by country and region, but could be significant (and one would assume that governments, fearing domestic unemployment spikes, might enact more legislation to block these types of arrangements if they become popular). * Logistics/Language Barriers: A potentially significant issue--depending on the store's set-up and the workers' language proficiency (e.g., they have to be knowledgeable with both formal and colloquial terms...). #robotics #technology #AI

Inaccurate info in the video BUT the concept is sound. You thought that your kids playing videogames was a waste of time? You still haven’t had them test out a VR headset yet? Tom Friedman said in 2005 that The World is Flat and while he was early, he predicted correctly. If you aren’t globally competitive then you are in trouble. Certain jobs will no longer exist in Developed Countries so upskill. The cheaper labour and the robots are coming. Innovate or die. #remotework #VRwork #robots

I agree that the ability to to pivot and adapt to an ever changing world. Is key. You can not stop progress. The key is to figure out how best to use these innovations to propel yourself forward. I have come across many (especially in my age group) who have decided to hunker down and ignore new technologies and systems. I have chosen to embrace them. I maybe having trouble figuring out how to use them all but I do my research to have a better understanding and to see where they may fit in our global market.
