This article recognizes the failure of recycling, but fails to recognize that reduction/reuse fail too. It isn't that recycling can't solve the problem, but the methods weuse to recycle. We have only pursued material-specific recycling, which rely on sorting. To move the needle, we need to add robust methods of recycling. Robustness is the ability to recycle materials that are minimally sorted, typically for the major inorganics (metals and glass). Robustness changes the imperitive to sort into a choice to select materials for readily available material-specific recycling. To select or not depends only on economics of a particular material at any given moment. What is not selected is recycled robustly. In this way, we dynamically optimize material resources in waste for highest use. The issue is not robustness or material-specific recycling, but rather robustness AND material-specific recycling. Also, calls to reduce consumption oppose progress, liberty, economy and capitalism. Those who wish to reduce their consumption are free to do so, but we need to stop castigating people for taking risks and investing in products and services that benefit humanity. With Regenerative Robust Gasification, we can have our cake and eat it too.
Insightful look into human nature & recycling. Validation on the need for the transformation of landfills and incineration to have regenerative robust gasification. We must make this transition! Imagine every landfill coming online as a Distrubuted Energy Resource (DER). There are over 2000 landfills in the US. At a very conservative 5 MW per landfill, that’s 10 GW of base load we could potentially add to the grid. If the local grid is unable to accept the power, you can convert it to a energy carrier like Hydrogen or Renewable Natural Gas, feedstock for new materials like Methanol or Syngas, and/or monitize on site with Bitcoin mining. We can find ways to make this transition as profitably, as it will be beneficial. #closedloop

Great points in the article but redundant information that has been stated numerous times. Humans are generating waste faster than any traditional recycling program has or would manage. Waste Gasification can virtually nullify expectations of human behaviors for waste recycling, reduction, or reusing.

One easy solution introduce to a many municipalities as possible the Robust Regenerative Gasification process producing Eco-Methanol to remake plastics again. there is no better financial solution to handle waste efforts.

Regional Account Manager, ICIS (part of RELX) | Shaping the world by connecting markets to optimise global resources
Alena Maran from Avery Dennison stresses alignment with the EU's Green Deal for climate neutrality by 2050 and emphasizes the role of packaging in reducing GHG emissions and decoupling growth from virgin materials. The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR) highlight recyclability, recycled content, and reusable packaging. Maran advocates for innovation incentives, science-based testing for EcoDesign, and leveraging Pressure Sensitive Labels to enhance recycling and awareness. Collaboration is key for innovative circular packaging solutions. #CircularEconomy #SustainablePackaging 🌍📦♻️

🚨 Beware of #Greenwashing! 🌿 UBQ Materials, an Israeli startup, is proposing to build an industrial-scale chemical recycling facility in Massachusetts aimed at transforming hard-to-recycle trash into a new type of plastic. 1) We don’t need more plastic. ❌ 2) We need real solutions, not a toxic cycle! ☠️ Chemical recycling facilities only lead to potentially dangerous, toxic, and climate-damaging effects. It DOES NOT help us or the planet. “These half-baked ‘silver bullets’ don't belong anywhere.” - Kevin Budris, Just Zero Deputy Director Read more via the 🔗. #BreakFreeFromPlastic #ChemicalRecycling

Has the phrase ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ grabbed your attention? The concept of recycling seems to be at the heart of every conversation around climate action. But a lot of misconceptions hover around the recycling process, which may lead you to believe you’re making a bigger positive impact on the environment than you truly are. Here, we debunk five common misconceptions about recycling, starting from the belief that plastic can be recycled indefinitely to the assumption that any item bearing the three-arrow symbol is recyclable where you live. Our goal is to guide you toward better decision-making both as a consumer and a voter.
