If you're that person who knows about drywalling and/or locksmithing, the team at One City Peterborough needs to speak with you yesterday. They are in need of someone with drywalling sills to help with some of the interior renovations and completing the offices at the former Trinity Church location. It's hard to handle confidential discussions when you haven't got four solid walls for your office! Likewise, the locksmith will be asked to do monthly checks to make sure that locks are locking and in some cases, repair or replace locks, strike plates and handles when needed. Both positions require vulnerable sector screening. There is also a need for someone very special to drive one of their clients to a community program. This client has some special needs, so it may not always just be dropping off/picking up. You will clearly need vulnerable sector screening and will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement. If any of these seem like positions that you can handle, please check their profile page at https://buff.ly/3XYRJkv Remember, we can complain about the homeless situation, or we can get up and do something to help. #VolunteersUrgentlyNeeded #CommunityBetterment #CommunityBuilding #HelpTheHomeless #SkillsNeeded #TradespeopleWanted Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce

“Bringing health and housing together has transformative impacts on people’s lives. Affordable housing preservation is the cornerstone that makes all that possible.” Great insights from @Jacqueline Waggoner during last week’s panel discussion with nonprofit, housing, and policy leaders about how efforts to preserve affordable housing can be part of equitable strategies to prevent homelessness and make sure people can live healthy lives. Stable housing is connected to improved chronic disease management, a reduction in illnesses, and improved mental health. And because housing insecurity disproportionately impacts low-income and communities of color, we consider housing a crucial #healthequity issue. At Kaiser Permanente, we believe there is real opportunity to do meaningful work to improve health and equity while addressing affordable housing - and preserving access to high-quality housing is a critical piece of the puzzle. Thank you to Enterprise Community Partners for partnering with us for the latest event in our Housing for Health series. We look forward to continuing this important discussion about the connection between health and housing at our next event on October 19. And thank you to everyone who shared great insights from their work, including KP Georgia President Pamela Shipley, Enterprise’s Southeast Market Director Sara Haas and Solutions Division President Jacqueline Waggoner, the City of Atlanta’s Senior Housing Policy Advisor @Joshua Humphries, Westside Future Fund CEO John Ahmann, Atlantica Properties Managing Partner Darion Dunn, P.E., Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta Managing Director of Housing Funds Sarah Kirsch, and HouseATL Executive Director Natallie Keiser. California Community Reinvestment Corporation (CCRC) was proud to sponsor San Gabriel Valley Consortium on Homelessness’s 2024 Housing Summit: "A New Season: Making Space For Affordable Housing" in San Dimas, CA! In addition to supporting the facilitation of this event, the Summit was also attended in-person by CCRC Relationship Manager Ting Xiao, who canvassed with other housing advocates to understand the implications of public policy on housing in the state of California. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s first Executive Directive, which streamlines affordable housing permitting, was a pertinent topic of discussion, as well as progress towards housing on faith-based organizations’ land and the future of the YIGBY (Yes In God’s Backyard) movement. Additionally, event attendees discussed methods of destigmatizing affordable housing within communities who oppose further developments. This advocacy work is indispensable to reversing decades of destructive narratives on affordable housing, which hurt the effort to guarantee stability and shelter to all Americans. The data on these important frameworks was made available by University of California, Berkeley’s Terner Center for Housing Innovation, Alliant Strategic Development, City of Pomona and National Community Renaissance. Creative legislative and advocacy solutions continue to move the needle on the housing crisis, and events like the 2024 Housing Summit are key to understanding how best to navigate a constantly changing housing landscape. CCRC is honored to continue fighting for affordable housing alongside other leaders in the industry. #affordablehousing #SGVConsortiumonHomelessness #ExecutiveDirective1 #ED1 #YIGBY

I'm such a fan of #communityengagement - such a powerful way to hear from people, explore different ideas and perspectives, and find ways to connect and collaborate. It is an important part of addressing the #polarity we seem to be experiencing across so many different topics. Some of the toughest questions we're experiencing in our communities can be tackled by engaging with people, surfacing ideas and perspectives, and finding common solutions. It is hard to be afraid of or stand in judgement of people when you are sitting across the table from them enjoying an egg-salad sandwich! Before you issue your next RFP for a challenge you're facing in your community, might I suggest you start with a facilitated community conversation to scope out the actual issues? #economicaloption Comment below to tell me about a sticky situation in your community or a helpful community conversation you've been part of. Let's learn from one another using this great example from the City of Lloydminster
Last week we posted congratulations to the City of Lloydminster for hosting a very robust and progressive community conference on housing and homelessness. The conference brought together almost 100 community members, agencies, businesses, and citizens to learn and explore with one another. To share the experience further, the City hired Cody Mazerolle from Maz Entertainment to record the event and support the audio visual needs for the day. The video recording from the day can be found at https://lnkd.in/gqfzXYeE We are sharing it here as the conference included panel sessions with speakers Ryan Veldkamp from the City of Red Deer, Natasha Pidkowa from the City of Lloydminster , Lori Richer from the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness, and Derek Ramage from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Société canadienne d'hypothèques et de logement(SCHL). Their thoughts and perspectives were helpful to conference attendees, and may be informative for you as well. Our President/CEO, Scott Cameron handled the presentation/moderator duties for the day. Reach out if you have any questions or want to do something similar in your community. The value of #communityengagement is significant and we'd welcome the opportunity to help you work through your wicked questions.

Affordable housing development is crucial infrastructure especially given the significant need for housing for low and moderate income working families. Now families will have to continue competing with investment companies with abundant cash to buy up market priced new homes thus eliminating the opportunity for the American dream of homeownership. Commissioners have effectively decided to line the pockets of wealthy investors and the companies building homes that are unaffordable for over 50% of residents in our county. Their decision to support the wealthy shows who they are beholden to serving and it abundantly clear that’s not working families and nonprofits doing God’s work. We had a well thought out tax incentive that gave preference to smart comprehensive planning to support affordable home ownership. #OpportunityLost #LeadershipMatters #ExperienceMatters #AmericanDream #HousingFirst

We encourage you to attend today’s County Council’s Affordable Housing Ad Hoc Committee at 5 PM at the Committee Meeting Room located at 301 University Ridge. You can also watch over the livestream from the agenda: https://lnkd.in/e2MS8D4a. Our partners LiveWell Greenville, Unity Health on Main, Greenville County Schools, and Loaves & Fishes Greenville are presenting. Thank you to Greenville County Council Chairman Dr. Ennis Fant, Sr. for your leadership of this committee. As a collective voice for people experiencing homelessness and those working to eliminate homelessness, we are fiercely committed to addressing policies and system-level change that align with our mission. Our vision is that our community will work together in Greenville County, ensuring safe, affordable housing for all with access to everything needed for a healthy and fulfilling life. As noted by Matthew Desmond, author of “Evicted” and “Poverty by America” when housing that is safe, and affordable is not accessible the rent eats first. He says, “By and large, the poor do not want a small life. They don’t want to game the system or eke out an existence; they want to thrive and contribute. Our cities have become unaffordable to our poorest families, and this problem is leaving a deep and jagged scar on our next generation.” #gvlhomes4all #greenvillesc #collectiveimpact #housingishealthcare #foodsecurity
