Gen Zers, whether they enjoy or dislike their jobs, are focused on breaking the cycle of dedicating their entire lives to their careers. They've observed previous generations making work their only priority or entire personality. For them, it's important to avoid this trap and maintain a balance between work and personal life. Here's what one of our Youthtellers had to say: “In general, [I’m scared of] just becoming a robot as an adult... Just waking up, going to work, and coming back home. I hate thinking of that cycle; I watched my family go through it, and they weren’t happy.” Read the full article below for more! If you're unfamiliar, Adolescent Content has an internal community that we call Youthtellers, aged 16-26 years old. They help us keep our ears to the ground about new trends, unique POVs, and current sentiment amongst their generation. Follow us to stay up to date on the latest Gen Z insights and trends.

Jodie Foster Says Gen-Z Are "Really Annoying" To Work With Famous people in different industries have been sharing their disapproval of how Gen-Z do things. Business leaders and multinational companies have been struggling with engaging and retaining Gen-Z employees. And now Hollywood is joining the conversation. It’s true, young people are re-writing the rules of what it means to be “professional”. But does this make them lazy? And are they the first generation to do things differently? Jodie Foster, who started acting aged 3 years – but is most memorable role was The Silence of the Lambs- shares that she loves helping and mentoring young actors and helping them kickstart their careers. However, she's not holding back her opinion about Gen-Z in the workplace, pointing out the differences in work attitudes and etiquette. “They’re like, ‘Nah, I’m not feeling it today, I’m gonna come in at 10.30am.’ Or, like, in emails, I’ll tell them this is all grammatically incorrect, did you not check your spelling? And they’re like, ‘Why would I do that, isn’t that kind of limiting?’” – said, Foster. On the contrary, we think Gen-Z are helping older generations rethink their ways of working and remember the importance of separating work and personal life. Young people don’t want to follow the path of their parents. They are actively protecting their well-being. They should be celebrated, not criticised for breaking outdated societal expectations. But more work needs to be done to facilitate teamwork and understanding in companies. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/du4VRagn Do you want to see our stories before everyone on LinkedIn? What if I told all the Genz’s and Millennials out there, that you will feel lost in the next five years if you are not doing this now. I recently had a Genz friend of mine come to me and she was explaining a lack of opportunity at work. How her ideas were dismissed by her Genx boss, and she felt like her boss was threatened by her new ideas, was old school and a bit too stubborn. I asked her one question on a scale of one to ten how well do you think you know your boss, like really know. One being not really and ten being pretty well. She was sitting somewhere at four. I told her to go back the next day and ask her boss for a coffee catch up. I told her to know her boss’s story, experience and current state of mind if there was any pressure from the management. Next day she comes back and she goes to me I learnt more during that coffee catch up about my boss than I have in the last year of work from home. I think my boss is pretty cool actually and my ideas will not go wasted here. My boss has gone through some real struggle and has so much to offer when you see a different side. So if you don’t want to feel lost in the next five years, find an alternative how can you know people better even if you don’t see them everyday. How do you make an effort to grow your network. If you don’t learn the old school tricks, you will never know what you are innovating. Make sure you are making an effort to connect with older people, there is a lot of wisdom out there, learn while you still can. Your network will always be your networth, it's that simple. #workculture #sydney

Here are my 5 tips for working with Gen Z (from a millennial boss). 1. Remind them how much harder it was back in your day (they are still young so don’t know how hard it was or was not). 2. Stand over their shoulder watching them work so they feel secure and like you have their back. 3. Ensure you have mandated ‘fun’ time. This is when your gen z employees must have fun during certain periods to increase morale. 4. Use their language. Gen Z love when you use words like ‘bet’ or ‘no cap’ as they feel like you get them. 5. Do none of these things and you will do great 👍 Any other tips?

IT’S NOT JUST YOU Let’s get real here. Finding happiness in your personal & professional life doesn’t happen overnight. Nor does it happen alone. It’s an entire process. I remember the day I left Target Corporation to start TalentQ. It was thrilling, exciting, and daunting all at once. I was an expert recruiter but, I tried to convince myself... “What makes you think you’re qualified enough to really do this?” It made me feel lonely at times. As if I put myself on an island alone. Fast forward, I discovered a business book club for women, and I immediately joined. While in the group I met four women who today are some of my closest confidants and friends. We hit it off immediately. The key to it was...we were all business owners. Even after the book club, we decided to continue meeting because of the bond we had built. We shared everything. Whether it was business related or personal. We’d cheer each other on and challenge one another. And it was incredibly refreshing to hear that some of the roadblocks I faced, they did too. I wasn’t the “only one” dealing with these problems. I watched my results skyrocket because I had a community of women that I knew I could share anything with. All while being my true self. Looking back, I’m thankful for that feeling of loneliness. Because it’s what prompted me to join that book club and in return find wonderful friends. Finding that community of like-minded women helped me grow and held me accountable. They helped call me out if I said something negative. Which is why I believe in the power of a community to hold you accountable. Not having accountability is one of the main reasons people’s dreams fall through. But the good news is ... You already have access to a group of women (including myself) ready to hold you accountable. The question is, will you take advantage of it? 👉 https://lnkd.in/gvj-2QbB

How can Leap Day encourage us to flip scripts, think about different patterns for finding good matches in our personal and professional lives, and take responsibility for our actions? February 29 used to be special in the matching realm--Irish women could ask men to marry them (men had the other 1,461 days), and it could be legally binding. Since then, to find love and connection, most of us use social media platforms and dating apps. They have trained us to attract attention to ourselves, go for large numbers, exaggerate our attributes, make snap judgments, and cancel / unlike / unfollow — or even worse, sometimes, ignore others. HR Tech developed with Heart Tech, affecting two of our most important relationships — romantic partners and work. Dating and job searches now have a lot in common. Technology should have made these important matches better — but it hasn't. In this piece, Jayanth N Kolla and I explore what happened and how we can respond to technology's tendency to have us treat each other as objects in both our personal and professional spheres. We are grateful to our photographic muse, Ellen Feldman, and poetic muse, Matthew Vernon Hanson. #dating #platforms #employeewellbeing
