The recent presidential debate was a reminder of the deep divisions within our political landscape. Unfortunately, on the local level, we are too familiar with what transpired on Thursday, given all that happened in the last couple weeks with our own city officials. While it showcased the candidates’ policy differences, it often devolved into distractions and personal attacks, overshadowing substantive discussion. For voters seeking clear policy outlines and respectful discourse, the debate might have been disappointing. Like many who wish we had better options, I say your better options lie with your local officials. Your local officials have more impact on your day-to-day lives than the U.S. president. This is because your local officials live in your neighborhood, and their actions have a direct impact on you in a way that a president’s actions might not. So, come Nov. 5th, your local officials should be your utmost concern. Therefore, to have a better chance of reviving our beloved city, look no further! It’s time to bring a positive aura to The Town! #letsreviveoaklandtogether #letsgettowork #westoakland #oaklandcitycouncilmember #thebottom

For those of you with a presence or employees in California, it seems the indoor heat illness rule may or may not be a thing (it is California, what can we expect?). Having said that, Robert Rodriguez and Karen Tynan, a couple of my favorite Ogletree Deakins colleagues wrote a blogpost explaining the situation (can anyone truly explain what California is doing?). Take a read and see if you can figure out where this is going. #odworkplacesafety #calosha #heatinjury #heatillness #california

When Hancock County, Indiana wanted to upgrade their 9-1-1 center's technology, they wanted a solution that would grow with their commuter-centric county. With the majority of residents working in Indianapolis, Hancock County public safety managers wanted: ✅ a reliable critical communication system to deliver traffic and weather alerts, ✅ a single launch point to send valuable safety information through text, email, voice calls, social media, IPAWS, digital signage and desktop alerts, and ✅ an easy-to-use solution neighboring county agencies would want to use - creating more streamlined communication to residents. https://bit.ly/3rZYBAb #StateGovernment #EmergencyResponse #911Dispatch #PublicSafety
