Apple is taking the plunge. This week, Apple announced its official entrance into the AI game. Why do we care? We asked Jennifer Sayroo, Senior Account Director at Adlucent, for her thoughts. "This matters for a couple of reasons: Apple's AI moves might have the potential to help with personalization and automation. But how far that will go for digital marketers is still to be determined, as Apple leans into another layer of data collection and user privacy. We expect that Apple will provide clear opt-in conditions, but given how many consumers already use ChatGPT, users are likely to be willing to give consent when Apple asks." What are your thoughts on Apple's announcement? Are consumers ready for this level of personalization? How do you think it will shake up the digital marketing game? Let us know in the comments. https://lnkd.in/d6ny6XZU #ArtificialIntelligence #AppleNews #DigitalMarketing

20 Billion Dollars! 💰 That is how much Google paid Apple last year for permission to be the default search engine on the iPhone. Yesterday, Apple unveiled a new suite of AI capabilities, and if you were listening, you heard Apple whisper "We're going to make pay for permission again." In addition to Apple Intelligence, Apple announced that ChatGPT would be integrated into iOS by giving users the option to have Siri give them a ChatGPT generated answer. However, Apple distinctly did not state that ChatGPT would be the only outside LLM allowed, nor did they state that it would be the default external LLM. I think that they were not-so-subtly asking "Alright, who's willing to pay up?" Another potentially brilliant business move from Apple, and some good food for thought. https://lnkd.in/gticAyEE #apple #WWDC #AI

Just like Apple does, they put their branding and name into the launch of "Apple" Intelligence aka "AI for the rest of us". Layering in AI on top of the OS will come with some really great advantages. It will give you more control over your apps, allowing you to ask the voice assistant to find information inside a particular email or even surface a photo of one of your friends. Apple is relying on LLMs to help Siri better understand what you say and keep track of follow-up requests and questions. Siri will automatically determine whether a query would be better suited for ChatGPT. It will then ask for your permission before sending its request to ChatGPT. You’ll be able to use ChatGPT through Siri for free and without an account. Here are some of the tasks the AI will be able to do: ➡ Proofread and suggest what users write in emails, notes or text ➡ Prioritize messages and notifications ➡ Answer user questions, create images and write software code ➡ Check whether a rescheduled meeting would overlap with a user’s family commitments ➡ Summarize audio recordings ➡ Enable users to create movies from photos by writing a description ➡ Clean up photos by taking out distracting background images ➡ Reduce hacking risk by processing user requests on the iPhone rather than at a data center ➡ Operate on an Apple-controlled cloud service using Apple semiconductors ➡ Divert user requests Apple can’t handle to ChatGPT For the AI/Tech nerds 🤓 ➡ Multimodal I/O. Enable text/audio/image/video capability, both read and write. These are the native human APIs, so to speak. ➡ Agentic. Allow all parts of the OS and apps to inter-operate via "function calling"; kernel process LLM that can schedule and coordinate work across them given user queries. ➡ Frictionless. Fully integrate these features in a highly frictionless, fast, "always on", and contextual way. No going around copy pasting information, prompt engineering, or etc. Adapt the UI accordingly. ➡ Initiative. Don't perform a task given a prompt, anticipate the prompt, suggest, initiate. ➡ Delegation hierarchy. Move as much intelligence as you can on device (Apple Silicon very helpful and well-suited), but allow optional dispatch of work to cloud. ➡ Modularity. Allow the OS to access and support an entire and growing ecosystem of LLMs (e.g. ChatGPT announcement). ➡ Privacy We're quickly heading into a world where you can open up your phone and just say stuff. It talks back and it knows you. And it just works. Now your device can work for you instead of you working for it! :)

It’s interesting to see how late Apple has come to the AI party by finally seeking to integrate OpenAi’s ChatGPT into its Siri voice assistant and operating systems in order to play catch-up in the AI race. Having announced this at its annual developers show just over a couple of weeks ago, Apple was warned at the start of this week by the European Commission that its App Store is in breach of EU rules and so Apple has backtracked on plans to roll out AI tech in Europe over regulatory concerns. The Commission said that Apple’s App Store was preventing developers from communicating with their users and promoting offers to them directly, a practice known as anti-steering. ‘Steering’ is key to ensure that app developers are less dependent on gatekeepers’ app stores and for consumers to be aware of better offers. No doubt the fact that Microsoft and Apple’s arch-competitor, Samsung, implemented AI in their devices far earlier will not make the slightest difference, given the popularity of Apple products, but nothing lasts for ever and we may see AI as a determinative factor which could cause Microsoft and Samsung to race ahead in the stakes of which is to become (and remain) the most valuable company in the world. Microsoft already overtook Apple in January with its $3.34 trillion valuation, followed by Apple at $3.18 trillion and Nvidia close behind at $2.97 trillion (as at 12 June, although on 5 June, Nvidia’s market value lifted the chip giant ahead of Apple to become the second most valuable publicly listed company in the world). #artificialintelligence #Apple #Nvidia #Microsoft #londonlawyers #Gannons

Apple just added ChatGPT to its devices 😲😲 In #Apple's latest venture, the tech giant aims to rejuvenate iPhone sales by leveraging advanced generative AI capabilities, including those developed by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. And of all possible names, it has extremely creatively called it...Apple Intelligence 😒 This marks a significant milestone for the company as it's debatably the only feature its added to its suit of phones that hasn't been out for a decade already. Despite being relatively late to the AI party (in true Apple fashion), the company is in an interesting position to enhance user interactions with personalized content and seamless app integration, especially within its ecosystem of Apple-only products. What does this mean for us consumers? 🤔 💡 If you're an Apple user, you're likely to see improvements in how your products integrate into your lives, assuming you have an iPhone 15 or newer. 💡 Should this be done well, this could significantly impact the business world by setting new standards for AI integration in consumer technology, pushing competitors to innovate and adapt rapidly. 💡Less popular phone brands like #Sony, #Google, or #OnePlus will soon follow suit with AI integrated into their ecosystems. China-based brands such as Oppo and Hua Wei won't be far behind either. 💡 With the emphasis on on-device AI processing for privacy, there will be a shift in how companies approach data security and AI, leading to more robust privacy standards and innovative ways to handle data processing. With all that said and done, will you be upgrading your device to capitalize on the integration of AI? Or are you going to make like #ElonMusk and avoid Apple all together? Apple's integration of ChatGPT into its ecosystem is getting up people's noses. As Apple plans to embed ChatGPT into its operating systems and tools like Siri and Notes, competition and privacy concerns are drawing scrutiny under the EU’s Digital Markets Act. Notably, this strategic partnership could exacerbate antitrust investigations, with fears about potential unfair advantages and data privacy issues. Apple ensures user privacy remains intact, asserting that OpenAI doesn't retain user queries nor track IP addresses. Yet, the broader implications on competition, especially concerning how Apple's AI integrations could affect rival apps, warrant a closer look from regulators across Europe and the U.S., emphasising the evolving landscape of digital regulation and competitive integrity in tech. https://tny.app/ywtp1715

If you’re disappointed that the only AI model that will integrate with Apple devices so far will be ChatGPT, it sounds like you won’t have to wait long for that to change. Apple will announce “at least” one other deal — to add Google Gemini, too — this fall, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter today. Gemini has been part of the iOS 18 chatbot rumors for as long as OpenAI has. Apple software boss Craig Federighi even hinted at a Google deal shortly after the keynote was over. Anthropic has been mixed up in these rumors as well, and Gurman also suggests Apple could announce a deal with that company at some point, if not this fall. Meta, though, was quickly rejected because its Llama chatbot just isn’t good enough, he writes. Beyond chatbot integration lies Apple Intelligence, which is only supposed to emerge, initially, in beta form this fall. Apple reportedly wants to make AI an avenue for direct profits, not just as a set of features aimed at moving hardware products. As part of that, Gurman suggests that the company “could eventually” roll out subscription-only Apple Intelligence features. But it seems like that won’t happen for a while, and although Apple Intelligence is only available for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max for now, who knows …

The biggest news this week in the AI space (as far as I’m concerned), is not Sam Altman bashing ChatGPT4 (and implicitly bragging about ChatGPT5), but the move that Apple is considering. Although Apple is far behind its competitors in the AI space, and Siri continues to be very disappointing for the millions of the iPhone users around the world, it is a bit puzzling to me that they are now considering putting Google’s Gemini in the iPhone. Ultimately any LLM is as good as its input and Apple is sitting on a goldmine in terms of user data from metadata, calendars, emails, texts etc. so why not build your own LLM or buy a bunch of companies? When you are sitting on the cash that Apple has, acquisitions should be fairly easy to realize. Many expect AI to be the new user interface for anything from websites to phones. It would therefore seem strange that a company like Apple would allow its biggest competitor (in the mobile operating system space) to provide the AI for this. Although the partnership with Google search has been long and prosperous for both Apple and Google, strategically, I do not understand why Apple would give up such a vital part of their business to the same company that is providing competitive phones with Android. I’m very interested to hear your thoughts on this. It is obviously a great deal for Google but what would be the trade-off for Apple? It just seems like a bad deal for them… What are they thinking? 👉 Is Apple worried about its iPhone market share when Google puts Gemini in Android? 👉 Is Apple seeing such a huge rise in use of the ChatGPT app that it feels it has no choice? 👉 Is Tim Cook desperately looking for some good news to share with his shareholders in the upcoming meeting? 👉 Is this a smoke screen for the legal trouble Apple is currently in? 👉 Is this business as usual, dating back all the way to the 90’s when Microsoft bought $150 million in shares in Apple and made a deal to make Internet Explorer the default browser on the Mac when Apple was almost bankrupt? 👉 Is Apple just gathering information from Google and OpenAI so they can get their former Apple car team a head start in developing their own Large Language Model? What do you think? #AI #Apple #Google #Gemini #LLM
