Celebrating my first month in office at EY in Rogers! Here are a few key takeaways from this exciting journey so far: Building Connections: One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is the importance of forging connections within the office. Feedback from my seniors has emphasized just how crucial it is to network and engage with the entire team. I'm committed to expanding my network and leveraging these relationships to enhance my internship experience. Embracing Curiosity: Asking questions has been instrumental in my learning process. I've discovered that here at EY, curiosity is not only welcomed but encouraged. Whether it's clarifying tasks or understanding the rationale behind processes, asking "why" has enabled me to grasp concepts more deeply and contribute meaningfully to projects. My recent consulting externship at PwC with Paragon One honed my research, analysis, and problem-solving skills within my personal "what, why, how" framework, which involved identifying the situation, understanding its significance, and analyzing its root causes. This approach, coupled with creative thinking and problem-solving skills, allowed me to tackle complex challenges and deliver valuable insights to our wonderful client. But the most valuable lesson? Daily goals and habits fuel long-term success. While this experience equipped me with valuable skills in research, analysis, and creative problem solving, a key takeaway was the importance of consistent action towards long-term goals. It's easy to set ambitious aspirations, but I learned that daily routines and following through on commitments are the true fuel for success. Just started my second internship at PwC Belgium as an auditor in financial services.

As the summer internship season kicks off, and we are welcoming our new interns at Michelman & Robinson, LLP, I'm reminded of my own transformative experience as an intern in Germany at the Frankfurt offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer over 20 years ago. It was my first international business experience, and little did I know then how much it would shape my personal and professional growth. To all the students embarking on internships this summer, whether close to home or far afield, I'd like to share some reflections from my journey: Embrace curiosity: Your internship is a unique opportunity to learn. Ask questions, seek out new perspectives, and absorb as much knowledge as you can. Curiosity is the fuel that propels growth and innovation. Dare to think big: Bring your best self to work each day and don't hesitate to contribute your ideas. Your fresh insights as an intern can spark meaningful change. Dream beyond the immediate tasks and envision the impact you can make. Connect with others: Your internship cohort and colleagues could become the cornerstone of your professional network. Build relationships, collaborate, and support one another. The bonds forged during this time can last a lifetime. Embrace the challenges: Growth often lies outside your comfort zone. Whether it is navigating a new environment, tackling an unfamiliar project, or communicating across differences, each challenge is a chance to develop new skills and resilience. Looking back, my internship in Germany was a pivotal stepping stone in my career journey. To all the interns of today, I wish you a summer filled with learning, growth, and exciting new horizons. This summer I had the privilege to intern at Deloitte in Risk and Financial Advisory. Before this experience, I was fortunate enough to intern at UBS Global Wealth Management and Wells Fargo Advisors. Together, these 3 internships have given me a great deal of knowledge. These are the top 3 things I have learned throughout my internship experiences. 1) Say "Thank you"- There are countless amounts of people who will help you through your experiences. Alumni, professors, and other peers deserve recognition for helping you achieve your success. 2) Real Life vs University- School DID NOT teach us that it is OK to be lost or confused, but those situations are what internships are about. Navigating through moments of uncertainty and learning how to respond when faced with challenges isn't often emphasized in traditional education. Maintaining composure, showing kindness, and knowing when to pause and reflect become essential skills in the workforce when dealing with conflicts or issues. 3) Considering External Factors- An internship is like test-driving a car, it's crucial to take everything into account. The commute, hybrid work arrangement, company perks, and overall organizational culture are some factors you must look into when seeing if you can create success from the opportunity at hand. This evaluation will help with life planning and work life balance. External influences should only HELP you with your career, not set you back.
