I don't know how many of my colleagues had the opportunity to see the total eclipse yesterday, but it was much more magical and awe inspiring than I expected. I wanted to participate in the event with my family that had gathered in southern Missouri, and I didn't spend that much time worrying about my camera settings. This shot was the best one I had of totality, and it captures much of what I saw with my own eyes. It was fun to show my great nephews and nieces how to make a camera obscura with their hands too! It was a total eclipse in my fourth grade that had me making a home made shoe box camera obscura to see the sun---despite not be allowed to use it during recess when the school kept everyone indoors. I took that passion to where I am today, loving the capture of images (still or motion) and sharing with whomever the audience might happen to be. In the end, the shared experience means more than any single portion of the event itself--I feel privileged that I can be a player in whatever work I find myself having.

3moI should add that, for those of you that know me well, I did bring my karaoke gear down to the party, and we had a lot of fun with the KaraFun Pro subscription ( KaraFun Business ) on my iPad to usher in the eclipse with celestial-themed songs, including "Total Eclipse of the Heart", "Bad Moon Risin'", "Kryponite", "Fishin' in the Dark", just to name a few. :)
