Our oceans are on the frontlines of climate change, acting as vital carbon sinks and home to diverse marine life. Yet, they face significant threats from overfishing and plastic waste. On World Ocean Month, we highlight initiatives harnessing the power of PET to restore and protect our marine ecosystems. Second Life Thailand 🌏: This innovative project, certified by Verra, offsets plastic waste by collecting and recycling it in vulnerable communities. Each plastic credit represents a ton of waste removed from the environment, helping scale up efforts to keep our oceans clean. The Ocean Cleanup 🚢: Dubbed the "largest cleanup in history," this initiative uses advanced technology to intercept plastic before it reaches the ocean. Their interceptors have cleared nearly 1,400 tons of plastic, focusing on the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" and major rivers around the world. Prevented Ocean Plastic ♻️: Bantam Materials’ program prevents over 1,000 tons of plastic from entering the ocean each month. By recycling plastic collected from coastlines, they support developing communities and encourage better consumer choices. Skizo 👟: Portugal-based Skizo Shoes transforms ocean waste into fashion. Their eco-friendly shoes are made from rubbish recovered from rivers and beaches, promoting sustainable fashion and funding environmental cleanups. These inspiring initiatives show that with creativity and commitment, we can turn the tide on plastic pollution. Let’s celebrate World Ocean Day by supporting and spreading awareness of these efforts to create healthier oceans and a sustainable future. #WorldOceanDay #SustainableLiving #LovePET #OceanRestoration #EcoFriendly #PlasticCredits #MarineConservation

Happy World Ocean Day from Team Packamama! This year, World Ocean Day’s theme is ‘Catalysing Action for Our Ocean & Climate’. The theme aligns with our mission to combat ocean pollution and promote sustainable packaging solutions through our collaboration with Prevented Ocean Plastic. We believe in being plastic-smart, taking into account the entirety of the product’s lifespan. Prevented Ocean Plastic™, supplied by Bantam Materials UK, is high-quality, food-grade, and award-winning recycled plastic material that has been collected from coastal areas at risk of ocean plastic pollution. The material is categorised as ocean-bound plastic, meaning that it has been found within a 50km distance of an ocean coastline, and would have been at high risk of ending up in our oceans if it had not been collected for recycling. #WorldOceanDay #ChooseRecycled #PreventedOceanPlastic #Packamama #plasticpollution #rpet #circulareconomy #winepackaging #winebottle #sustainable

I follow The Ocean Cleanup for a while and the remarkable work they do to clean and collect superficial plastic from the rivers and the oceans. A couple of weeks ago they were showing their project in Guatemala and post they have collected over 1.5m kg of trash. And it is still an ongoing project. And this is just 1 river in the world! We collectively need to first have and create awareness of what is happening. But we all need to understand the problem, the impact, the implications and some of the many actions we all can start support and do: 🚱 The Problem of River Plastic Plastic pollution is a growing concern worldwide, and a significant portion of it originates from rivers. Each day, tons of plastic waste, from single-use items to discarded packaging, find their way into water bodies and eventually flow into the oceans. 🐢 Impact on Marine Life When plastic reaches the oceans, marine creatures mistake it for food or become entangled. From sea turtles to seabirds and marine mammals, countless species suffer from ingestion or suffocation due to plastic debris. 💧 Threat to Water Quality As plastic waste degrades over time, it breaks down into tiny particles known as microplastics. These microscopic pieces contaminate ocean water, threatening water quality and marine biodiversity. 🗑️ The Call for Responsible Consumption We can be catalysts for change by advocating responsible consumption and waste management practices. Reducing our reliance on single-use plastics, promoting recycling, and supporting sustainable alternatives are crucial steps in curbing plastic pollution from rivers to oceans. 🌏 Global Collaboration for Change Addressing the plastic crisis requires a united effort from governments, businesses, NGOs, and individuals alike. By supporting policies that prioritize plastic reduction and investing in innovative recycling solutions, we can tackle this challenge together. ♻️ The Power of Circular Economy Embracing a circular economy model can significantly reduce plastic pollution. This approach focuses on designing products with the end of life in mind, promoting recycling, and encouraging the reuse of materials. Let us be inspired by the collective actions of individuals and organizations worldwide who are championing the fight against plastic pollution. By raising awareness, participating in cleanup initiatives, and supporting sustainable businesses, we can make a difference. Today is Earth Day, a time to show support for protecting our planet. This year's theme, Planet Vs Plastics, highlights the urgent need to raise awareness about the impact of plastic pollution on our environment 🌎 Did you know that the Mediterranean Sea is the sixth greatest accumulation zone for marine litter, polluted by an estimated 730 tonnes of plastic waste daily? During summer, this pollution spikes by up to 40% due to tourism. Here are key tips we can all practice to minimize plastic pollution: 🥤 Say no to single-use plastics like cutlery and straws 🌿 Embrace reusable items such as water bottles and shopping bags. At MH Bland, we use refillable glass bottles in our offices instead of plastic ♻️Recycle your plastics! Gibraltar saw a 46% drop in plastic recycling rates in 2023. We separate waste in our offices to promote recycling 🛍️ When shopping, choose products with minimal or biodegradable/recycled packaging 💚 Let's take small steps together toward a greener, brighter future. Happy Earth Day💚 #sustainability #mediterraneansea #plasticvpollution #infographic #earthday
