Here at DF Concerts, it’s been a busy year in sustainability since the last #EarthDay. As one of the core values of our business, we want to celebrate our top environmental achievements of the past 12 months: - Sent zero waste to landfill for the 3rd year in a row. - Arranged energy audits at our office and our venue, King Tut’s. - King Tut’s introduced reusable cups, removing over 55,000 plastic cups from our waste since July 2023. - Our office and venue are on 100% renewable tariffs, and we have continued investing in 100% sustainably sourced biofuel to power event generators. - Outdoor events had a combined average 63% material recovery rate - a 1% increase from last year. - Successfully implemented a zero-plastic policy at our events at Royal Highland Showgrounds. - Measured indirect emissions impact from audience and employee travel for the first time. - Created the ‘Play Your Part’ campaign, advocating for climate action across fan, artist and employee communication channels. - Worked with a wide range of organisations to promote social and environmental sustainability, including Zero Waste Scotland, Tiny Changes, Greenpeace, Music Broth, Eden Project, Glasgow Eco Trust, Advanced Clothing Solutions and Re:volve Recycling. - These engagements had a positive impact on our fan experiences and for the organisations themselves. For example, Re:volve made over £3000 selling pre-loved and handmade clothing and accessories through their shop at Connect. - 67% of food traders at our events offered at least one plant-based alternative on their menus. - Began Carbon Literacy Training our employees. We can’t wait to welcome back more fans and artists to help us play our part this summer, where we’ll be introducing circular waste solutions to some of our bars, improving energy efficiency, innovating with renewable energy, arranging biodiversity surveys of the sites we work on, reviewing and enhancing the ‘Play Your Part’ climate actions campaign, further increasing availability of plant-based offerings, and much more. We’ve already started laying plans for next year’s events. Let us know in the comments what you would like to see in 2025!

Our very own Ella Ward sends round a sustainability update every Friday for the Work.Life team, but we think this is something everyone should see. Here's this weeks instalment: Coldplay’s greener tour 💚 In 2019 the band Coldplay pledged to not tour again until it could be done with lower impact. In 2021 they announced their 12-point plan to reduce the tour's carbon footprint by 50%.Now in 2024, they have shared that the Music of Spheres World Tour (2022-2024) has so far surpassed their CO2 emissions reduction target, hitting a 59% reduction on a show-by-show comparison. Here are some highlights and key changes made for the Music of Spheres World Tour: ✅ One tree has been planted for each concertgoer, totalling so far 7 million trees across 24 counties ✅ Stages sets built with sustainable, reusable materials and show confetti is 100% biodegradable ✅ Kinetic dance floors, energy-storing stationary bikes and solar panels have generated an average of 17kWh during each show, used to power the venue ✅ 72% of all tour waste has been diverted from landfills and sent for reuse, recycling or composting ✅ The tour route has been consciously planned to reduce air travel. Where air travel is necessary they pay a surcharge to use or supply sustainable aviation fuel These are just a couple of highlights, every aspect of the tour has been carefully considered. The band has also financially contributed to a number of excellent environmental and socially conscious projects and charities. That’s what I call leading by example! As a B-corp, sustainability is something we're constantly in conversation about. What have you seen/read/watched this week that's inspired you to think differently about our impact on the planet? Let us know below 👇 #bcorp #sustainability

Should More Artists and Performers Follow Coldplay's Lead in Sustainability Efforts? Spoiler. I am pretty sure the answer is YES. Do you agree? I've just read Coldplay's sustainability report from their most recent World Tour. Here are 5 headlines from that report: 1. The band achieved a 47% reduction in direct CO2e emissions compared to their 2016-17 tour on a show-by-show basis. 2. They diverted 66% of all tour waste from landfills, significantly reducing their environmental impact. 3. The kinetic dance floors and power bikes at the gigs generated an average of 15kWh of power per show. This energy was sufficient to power the C-stage performance each night and provide charging stations for the crew. 4. They offered free water refill stations at 95% of their shows, encouraging fans to reduce plastic use. 5. Donated 3,770 meals and 73 kg of toiletries from tour catering to the unhoused and unsheltered. In addition, they saved 553 tCO2e by opting for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for flights and planted 5 million trees: 1 tree for every concertgoer. This effort restored 5,000 hectares of land across 17 countries through 21 planting projects. They also adopted financial support to various environmental organisations, including ClientEarth, The Ocean Cleanup, Climeworks, Sea Shepherd, Project Seagrass, Sustainable Food Trust, Cleaner Seas Group, Food Forest Project, Knowledge Pele, Conservation Collective, and others. Perhaps most significantly, the report claims they inspired 707,288 actions taken by fans through their partnership with Global Citizen. We don't need a handful of people doing sustainability perfectly; we need millions doing it imperfectly. So, yes. Here's to us all, including artists and performers following Coldplay's lead. Bravo, team Coldplay.

#nfts with real-world application, not expensive jpegs: you can now off-set your plastic consumption, whether you area famous football club, ticket seller, restaurant, or you and me. What I love about Plastiks is that each #PRG (Plastik Recovery Guarantee) is not for resale. This secondary market is a main driver that create the avalanche of #greenwashing in the Carbon Off-set market. Blockchain / crypto / web3 is a keystone tech and social solution to many problems stemming from the overshoot of planetary boundaries, and the world is slowly waking up to its potential - beyond scams fraud and ponzi schemes.
❗Plastiks was born to face the ever-growing problem of plastic pollution. ♻️ Our solution is integrating plastic recovery into every consumer transaction. Whether that’s: 🎼Ticketing: whereby every concert ticket, football game ticket and event recovers plastic from the environment 🛍️Shopify and eCommerce: allowing customers to recover plastic waste at the time of check-out, and allowing online stores to showcase the plastic they have recovered in real-time 🏆Customised campaigns: recovering plastic with every product or service sold, and rewarding customers for doing their part 💚Collections: recovering plastic with digital collectibles just like FC Barcelona To know more about ticketing, take a look at our blog for inspiration: https://lnkd.in/dNtw7sdp #Plastiks #plasticcredits #ticketing #shopify #sustainability

Our various events can be a lot of fun, but they can also be a big environmental impact. From the waste produced to the energy consumed, festivals can leave a hefty mark on the planet. But there are things that festival organizers and attendees can do to make festivals more sustainable. Here are a few tips: 😎 Reduce waste. Encourage attendees to bring their own reusable water bottles, cups, and utensils. Provide plenty of recycling and composting bins. And choose vendors that use sustainable packaging. 😎 Use renewable energy. Power the festival using solar, wind, or other renewable energy sources. 😎 Reduce transportation emissions. Offer shuttle services to and from the festival site, or encourage attendees to carpool, bike, or take public transportation. 😎 Support local businesses. Source food and other supplies from local vendors whenever possible. 😎 Educate attendees. Let festivalgoers know about the festival's sustainability initiatives and encourage them to do their part. Here are a few specific examples of what festivals are doing to be more sustainable: Glastonbury Festival in the UK has banned single-use plastic bottles and straws. Coachella in the US has installed solar panels and composting toilets. Bestival in the UK offers a shuttle service to and from the festival site using recycled oil buses. Primavera Sound in Spain sources all of its food from local vendors. Shambala in the UK has achieved a 91% waste diversion rate. These are just a few examples, and there are many other festivals that are taking steps to be more sustainable. By making small changes, we can all help to reduce the environmental impact of festivals. How are you making a difference? #EventPlanners #Festivals #FestivalPlanners #FLEvents

Thank you Pollstar for this tremendous article on r.World | Reuse. Posted on Earth Day, a day of great importance to me, it shows that the world's single-use waste problem is also a climate change problem, and why everyone needs to reuse. Whether it’s mudslides, hurricanes, storms, 90-degree weather here in Minnesota which we had in April, this is something that touches everyone. People are finally waking up to change. r.World | Reuse is here to help, and I'm proud of the team we have here that is leading change across the country. To do so, we’ve built the national reuse infrastructure that makes it easy to implement reuse at scale. From Pollstar: “r.World has stopped 50 tons of plastic from being produced, and much of it has to do with venues joining the trend of reuse. The company is now in seven states and 44 cities, partnering with more than 200 venues across the country and working with municipalities to build elaborate eco-friendly wash hubs along with partner Ecolab that would allow the sanitization of reusable cups.” Shout out to our partners AEG and ASM Global for helping launch and accelerate the concept of reuse across the music industry and into mainstream consciousness. The result? Widespread reuse in music. And, other industries and verticals are joining the movement, including sports, corporations, campuses, convention centers, aquariums, zoos, performing arts centers, theaters, and many more. As Pollstar says, though time is running out for the world to meet the 2030 deadline of reducing carbon emissions by 50%, it’s never too late to turn the ship. Reusables are a good starting point. #reuse #sustainability #innovation #earthdayiseveryday Read more from Pollstar here:
