Imagine a world where oceans overflow with life, not plastic.   That's the future we are fighting for!   Plastic comprises over 80% of ocean waste, with 8 to 10 million metric tons entering the ocean annually. According to UNESCO, ocean plastic is projected to outweigh marine life by 2050. Amidst this, the urgency for a way out grows.    Robots, powered by AI, are here to revolutionise the way we clean. Equipped to handle a whopping metric ton of waste every day, they operate continuously, collecting whopping amounts of waste and trash in a jiffy and with ease. These robots also gather data, detect marine life, and trash, and transmit images and GPS locations for waste analysis. Combined with sea currents and water quality data, this helps track waste origins and tackle pollution at its source efficiently.   These AquaBots are just the beginning and an effective step towards cleaning our oceans. But let's take a step back and think beyond plastic collection. CIRT Chief Science Officer, Dr. Jenna Jambeck saw that as our use of plastic products expanded, so too would plastic in our environment. "Collecting data on plastic pollution, which was largely lacking at the time, was a key step to understanding the problem and creating solutions," says Dr. Jambeck. Enter Debris Tracker. The app, originally called Marine Debris Tracker, was developed with support by the NOAA Marine Debris Program and co-founded by Dr. Jambeck and Dr. Kyle Johnson in 2010.
