For BOTI Global Ltd. the #LApreviews have so far been a succes. Now, we look forward welcoming the US/Canadian retailers this coming week for another round before we can pack up an go back home. While both the April and September previews are a long stretch, without any doubt and with all respect for #hongkong and other venues, the LA previews seem more productive under the Californian sun due its length. Not always easy for suppliers who have to spend more time (and cost) in LA, but the return is we have more time for the customers. So if that is the investment we have to make to present a better proposition to our customer base ...well that is what we, toy suppliers, just have to do. And where some win, some others lose. As I have predicted several times #distoy is a dead end road and will likely not happen as 2025/2026. As much as #NYTF will never be the same again. The The Toy Association has finaly realised fighting an uphill battle against the inevitable, doesn't do any good, so a move to LA is now in the making. BUT it hurts their wallet so much. The Toy Association being a commercial driven institute, rather than a non-profit organisation is seeking for funds... For example if you want to book a hotel in El Segundo during the LA Preview in September, guess what...you have to book it through the TA.... that is a bold move from an organisation despising LA for such a long time. A TA focusing on making money first before caring about the industry is in principle wrong. As much as paying its CEO close to 1 mio USD a year is nothing but a disgrace. It is no surprise a new US Toy Association is in the making. And as always, very little is dull in our industry... Here's what you don't know about them: Rolex makes over $10B/yr in revenue. Some people even say: "Rolex watches are better investments than gold, stocks, and real estate". And YOU CAN'T buy their stock on any exchange! Why are they so powerful? Rolex is a huge profit organization owned by a non-profit called: "The Hans Wilsdorf Organization". It's a charity and it doesn't pay corporate taxes. This private trust based in Geneva is one of the most influential in the country. And everything was built by an orphan... Hans Wilsdorf, born 1881 in Germany... Grew up in boarding schools as an orphan. He started Rolex in 1904 and hit success in 1926 with the legendary Rolex Oyster. First waterproof wristwatch in the world! He created the Hans Wilsdorf organization after his wife died... And gave 100% of the Rolex company to the organization. He died shortly after without ever having kids. Much is still unknown about Rolex. But they are buying real estate and businesses behind the scenes: Rolex sell watches and donates the $$. The non-profit invests the $100s of million tax-free. Some local reports translated from French say they own: Luxury real estate in London in places such as Hyde Park. And they spend over $740,000,000 on real estate in Geneva. Rolex is owned by a charity but they don't have to disclose anything. They definitely invest in research and development. But nobody ever made a public claim about receiving a donation from them! So what's going on in reality? Rolex is printing money and is completely free of capitalism. You think these huge corporations and institutions are something normal. You think they work just like other businesses. But in reality, they hold a monopoly over the whole world economy. Initially, Football was invented and loved by the poor until the rich discovered that it could effectively distract the masses from questioning those in power. The wealthy then transformed football into the most popular sport and capitalized on it. Although, the salaries of football players are skyrocketing nowadays. Rolex's target audience is wealthy individuals, not the masses. Although, Rolex is highly profitable. Did you know why Rolex is a non-profit organization?

The picture may be a little hazy but memory is still crystal clear. About 10 years ago at my 1st Charity Art Auction in Dubai in collaboration with Zee Art "Hope" put up for the fund raise initiative went for ₹ 56,600. I wasn't ready to let go of 'Expanding Boundaries'; 'Vinayak' & 'Unity in Diversity' yet. Looking back I feel their destiny too was penned that day when they got displayed. Each of the 3 paintings later helped raise funds for various other initiatives. It seems like another life. I hadn't learned to paint professionally and was driven by passion and the feeling- let's give it my best shot. A tiny voice would peek out & try to pull me down. " You are going to make a fool of yourself. No one will buy your Art. What chance do you stand before all the professional, global artists?" Now I feel a bit wiser. I know all of us ( including the best entrepreneurs & startup founders) are plagued by the IMPOSTERS SYNDROME at some point in our life. If we let it win we never make the jump. 🚨 FREE ADVICE FOR CHARITIES 🚨 Prize selection is one of the most important aspects of any fundraising auction. Although some 💩 will stick to the wall if you throw enough - you shouldn't take that approach with auction prizes. The aim should be to provide prizes that are going to reflect well on the event. Give people memorable experiences to bid on and offer memorabilia that's actually worth hanging on the wall (nobody wants a reserve goalkeepers signed glove from the 1971 Charity Shield). Here are some top tips 💡 📰 Be current. Impulse Decisions work incredibly hard to ensure our prizes are up to date and relevant. This consistently proves to increase involvement in auctions. Take Mark Cavendish and his 35th Tour de France stage win yesterday - his signed display went into our auctions and that very evening sold at events across the country, raising fantastic money for charity. 🌍 Have a wide enough selection. Only have one holiday listed in the auction? Half the people in the room have already been there so probably won't bid. Expand the selection to offer different options and you'll get more bids! 💲 Don't go cheap Cheap prizes - are they really going to raise anything, or are they taking up space? Do they improve the reputation of the event? Are they going to be memorable for the bidder and influence whether they return to the event the following year, plus tell their friends? I think we know the answers to all of the above. We know not all charities are lucky enough to get tonnes of free expensive donations, but every charity event should take a serious look at the prizes on offer in the auctions. It's more than just throwing together what you can and hoping for the best - the allure of desirable auction items can promote a sense of exclusivity, making the event far more memorable and enjoyable for participants. Stronger together for the betterment of our society #HKJC contributes record HK$35.9 billion to the community in 2022/23   Following its Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) today (5 September), the Club announced its results for the 2022/23 financial year ended 30 June 2023 (FY2022/23).   Despite the many challenges, the Club achieved a record turnover of HK$304.8 billion, which in turn enabled it to contribute a record HK$35.9 billion to the #community. This comprised a record HK$28.6 billion in betting duty, profits tax and Lotteries Fund contributions and HK$7.3 billion in approved charity donations - the second highest in the Club’s history.     Reflecting on the Club’s achievement, Club Chairman Michael Lee said, “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the #racing community, to our members, to the HKSAR Government, to Mainland authorities, to the Club’s management and employees, and most especially to our customers. Through your support, Hong Kong racing is an example to the world of the strength and resilience of our city.”     Club CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said, “Through resilience and agility, the Club performed extremely well during the pandemic. However there is no question that the post-pandemic environment is proving equally challenging, with the economy likely to be highly volatile for some time to come. In these circumstances, the Club’s exceptional performance last year was only possible because of its strategy to develop world-class racing and to export it overseas via #commingling as well as through the creation of the World Pool.
