Lots of talk about the coffee market lately, for those who are interested in what the hell is going on with the Futures market, here's a great look from a few weeks back. The TL:dr answer: it's complicated. Macro & micro economic factors, lots of technical trading and some big moves by speculators have driven the market up to some high highs in the past month. If your curious for a more in-depth and technical analysis, reach out and I can add you to my reports when I send them out (consolidating all of the information I get from some very smart people). cc: Coffee Intelligence #specialtycoffee

I had the good fortune to share our story with The Globe and Mail/Report on Business Magazine. Always gratifying to see how sustainability continues to drive the narrative in coffee - the future of our industry depends on it! (and for what it's worth, it's only moderately mortifying to see yourself illustrated...)
Excited to share -- Adam Pesce's recent feature in The Globe and Mail! We've come a long way in making our coffee business sustainable. From tackling our supply chain to achieving B Corp status, we're committed to an eco-friendly approach the protects our planet and the future of the coffee beans we love. Initially, overcoming doubt was tough, but thanks to a supportive network and hard facts, we've shown that good business can be good for the planet. Here's to building a legacy our kids would be proud to inherit – sustainably.
The coffee business can be a nasty one. For Adam Pesce, the only solution is sustainability

Love this article in The Hamilton Spectator... compassion and kindness go a long way (and they don't cost a thing).
As we celebrate Mental Health Awareness month, we're reminded by the Canadian Mental Health Association that compassion and kindness are major drivers of health. "Even a seemingly small act of kindness like holding the door open or paying for someone’s coffee could completely turn someone’s day around." #compassionconnects #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters https://lnkd.in/gz2JCSAA

This is amazing! The Coffee Association of Canada's Charity of the Year! Congrats to the team. I've had the honour of being on the board of Grounds for Health since 2011. The work that the organization does is incredible, inspirational, impactful and influential.
We are excited to announce that Grounds for Health has been selected as our Charity of the Year for 2024. For over 27 years, Grounds for Health has partnered with the specialty coffee industry to prevent cervical cancer in coffee communities in Latin America and Africa. Cervical cancer kills one woman every two minutes, yet it is entirely preventable with access to basic healthcare services. “Grounds for Health is an exemplary choice for our Charity of the Year due to their significant impact on improving the health of women in coffee-growing communities,” said Robert Carter, President, Coffee Association of Canada. “Grounds for Health’s concrete actions and compassionate dedication to women in coffee-producing countries has had real-life, lifesaving effects on one of the most marginalized groups in our industry.” Through their programs, Grounds for Health ensures that nurses, health educators, women and families have the training, equipment and support they need to get and give these services. "We are delighted to be named the first Charity of the Year by CAC!” said Kyle Engelman, Executive Director, Grounds for Health. “Many CAC members are supporters of Grounds for Health, inspiring us every day with their commitment to the farmers and women who make this industry possible. Thank you for this honor - we promise to continue our high impact work alongside you.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gxe8qptr

If you've ever wondered how much #caffeine is in your coffee, well the answer will vary depending on the type of coffee, the brew method, roast level and many other agricultural, biological and process-related factors. However, for a quick check on approximately what each kind of coffee might have in it, check out the Coffee Association of Canada's guide here: https://lnkd.in/exCsTxYH #coffee #CoffeeAndHealth #specialtycoffee

To anyone who wonders how Fairtrade helps farmers... the premiums we pay as consumers go back to the farmers, so they can invest in what is most important to them. It's a beautiful system.
More than €210 million, this is the Fairtrade Premium earned in 2022 by Fairtrade farmers and workers for our seven major products: 🍌 Bananas, ☕ coffee, 🍫 cocoa, 🌿 cotton, 💐 flowers, 🍬 cane sugar, and 🍵 tea. These products all together represent more than 90% of Fairtrade farmers and workers. 💰 The Fairtrade Premium is an extra sum of money paid on top of the selling price that farmers and workers invest in projects of their choice. They decide together how to spend the Fairtrade Premium to reach their goals, such as improving their farming, businesses, or health and education in their community. Coffee farmers earned the most Fairtrade Premium in 2022, with €95.6 million.🌱🚀✨ Can you guess which farmers earned the next highest Premium amount?🔎 👉 Go to our Fairtrade Premium dedicated page to see if you’re right: http://fairtr.de/l6U #futureisfair #Fairtradepremium

An amazing example of corporate accountability… in a time when most seem to be pointing fingers, Patagonia puts up their hand and says “We HAVE to do better”. I find this so damn inspiring.
Since we first learned of the role we play in the spread of microfiber pollution in 2015, Patagonia has actively searched for partners to help end—or at least seriously curtail—the spread of synthetic fiber waste into the air and water. Samsung Electronics has now brought to market a Less Microfiber Filter that can be attached easily to existing front-loading washers. Ocean Wise has verified that this filter reduces microfiber shedding by 98%. It was introduced into the Korean market in May 2023, and will be introduced in Europe this month, and in North America in September. We can’t thank Samsung’s team enough for the quality of both their engineering and sustainability efforts! A collaboration between a global electronics giant and a company that touts Earth as its sole shareholder may be an unlikely combination, but many such collaborations are needed for the future.
