Nerd Words, Spoken and Written

This past Saturday, I did something I can't remember doing for the past 6 months or so. I spent a good portion of the day on the couch playing a game on my phone and watching "For All Mankind" which is damn good by the way. I didn't earn any money, but I gained a good restful day off and helped clear some of the writer's block that I'd been fighting with for the few days before that. I don't feel guilty, per se, but I struggled that evening with regret for having "wasted" a day. It's an equal war between regret and relief, and at the end of it, relief won out. But I know this is something that a lot of freelancers struggle with, especially those who are struggling to keep up with the bills. For what it's worth, something to keep in mind is, you're not doing anyone any good by being burned out and pushing constantly. Sometimes, it's ok to take your foot off the gas. You don't have to feel bad about it.

Covey called that "sharpening the saw," and he was right. Balance matters.

Best decision I've made since becoming a full-time freelancer is respecting my weekends and working hours unless there are too many deadlines too close because it's one of those months full of opps. I don't want to be more burned out than a staffer. We shouldn't treat ourselves worse than a bad boss.

The worst of it is, if you're working seven days a week the burnout will make you procrastinate to the point where you could have taken weekends and evenings off anyway. And you'll always feel worse about that.

Fully agreed, a day of destressing  ourselves can make us more productive the entire week = more 💰

Me (to me) on similar days: "There are things more important than money and you can't make money if you're dead or sick. Rest, moron"
