Did anyone stay up last night to watch the Super Bowl? We won't ruin the score but alongside the star-studded crowd (looking at you Taylor!), Usher's amazing halftime show and Beyonce announcing a new album, we were interested in the charitable, environmental and community-driven aspect of the Super Bowl and the sport itself. - Did you know this was the first Super Bowl to be powered fully by renewable energy? - The NFL work with many charity partners that help support and raise awareness for early detection of cancer; the consequences of drink driving and support for victims of domestic abuse to name but a few. - They have a free digital education resources hub - Huddle at Home - for young people and their families. - The NFL have developed character education (helping young people to cultivate and maintain healthy relationships) and Environmental programmes (helping communities create everlasting change) - Inspire Change is the NFL's social justice initiative, aimed at reducing barriers to opportunity and working together across all aspects of the NFL 'family' to create positive change. A HARRIS MISSION: Tobias Harris (now with the Detroit Pistons) & his brother & former G-League forward, Terry Harris, are teaming up to bring much-needed affordable housing to Los Angeles. The Harris brothers said they are currently in development to bring 270 affordable housing units in three locations to the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The projects include a 33-unit development, 93-unit development with retail, and a 190-unit development. The goal is to have 1,000 units in development in neighborhoods across the city by the end of the year. Terry Harris said that all of the properties are expected to be built from scratch and not refurbished old buildings. “This is a project that my younger brother and myself are in the works on now,” Tobias Harris told Andscape. “We are always figuring out ways to give back. In Los Angeles, there is a housing shortage. A lot of this is his initiative that I am supporting. It’s still early, but we’re working on a lot of things to make it happen.” Athletes catch a lot of heat for various reasons, among them: social responsibility and salaries. There are a LOT of stories like this throughout the NBA and sports as a whole but they don't get the press. Many athletes give back. It's usually neighborhood initiatives like this that often go unnoticed. Making an impact and leaving a lasting legacy often involves taking deliberate steps. When you look back at people's lives and the intentionality that was evident you can see these steps: Identify Your Passion: Find what excites you—whether it’s women’s equality, criminal justice reform, education, or any other cause. Intrinsic motivation drives impactful actions. Take Initiative: Don’t wait for others to act. If you see a problem, fix it. Former venture capitalist Chris Sacca wisely said, “Ideas are cheap; execution is everything.” Rethink Risk: Inaction can be riskier than action. When you focus on making a difference in others’ lives, you create opportunities for leadership and personal growth. Prioritize Respect Over Likability: Leaders make decisions based on what’s right, not just what’s popular. Eleanor Roosevelt’s advice holds true: “Do what you feel in your heart to be right – for you’ll be criticized anyway” Remember, even small actions can have a ripple effect, contributing to a better world. 🌟🌱.
