Myth vs. Fact: Marrow Donation Edition 𝐌𝐘𝐓𝐇: Donation is very painful. 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓: Donation is less painful than you probably think. Discomfort and side effects vary, but it's nothing like what you see on TV. For PBSC (Peripheral Blood Stem Cell) donation, you might experience headaches, nausea, and tiredness—mainly from the daily filgrastim shots leading up to donation. For marrow donation, there's no pain during the procedure, but you may feel a bit sore afterward. Let's separate the myths from the facts and spread the word about the reality of donation! https://lnkd.in/gXjdtPAw #BeTheMatch

Please help when you can
Recently, AJ and Curtis Pritchard, Smiley Charity Film Awards ambassadors, met Julia and Nathan, who have a unique bond – they share the same DNA! When Julia was diagnosed with AML – a form of blood cancer – Nathan received a call to say that he was a match for a stranger, and donated his stem cells, not knowing who they were going to. Now, Julia and Nathan are close friends, and recently discovered that Nathan was actually working just next door to the hospital, where Julia was receiving her transplant! Had Nathan not signed up to the stem cell register, Julia would not have received her lifesaving stem cell transplant, and she may not have recovered. Now, we’re calling on all Londoners to consider becoming a lifesaver, just like Nathan. There are 1,930,344 people aged between 16 and 30 in London – and if we recruited just 0.1% of these that would be almost 2000 potential lifesavers on the register! We want to give every young person in London the chance to become a proud LonDONOR. The more potential donors we have, the better chance we have of unlocking a cure for people just like Julia. #AJAndCurtisCharitySpotlights #UNSDGs

It's the 30th June and today is your last chance to make a tax deductible donation to Cure Cancer this financial year. This year our tax appeal is helping fund cutting edge research on male reproductive cancers. The stats speak for themselves: - 1 in 5 Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime with 20,000 new cases diagnosed each year. - Testicular cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in Australian men aged 20-39, with over 900 new cases diagnosed each year. Help support further cutting edge research like that that helped saved Clint's life: https://lnkd.in/g5S-M44W #curecancer #ecr #cancerresearch #prostastecancer #testicularcancer #eofy #taxappeal

I want to see changes in this world, either directly or through others I can help! (I also am obsessed with crocheting 🧶 and hiking 🥾 and my family 👨👩👧👧)
The real reason some succeed and other do not… Is the difference in action. My husband and I are literally driving to any store we can think would be a good fit and simply asking them if we can supply their coffee. Many say no… But some say yes! And the ones that say yes are usually the gems we want anyways! Yesterday CompassionBrew partnered with Sammies and Hammies inside of R n R RV in #spokanewa How did we accomplish this? By putting ourselves out their and simply doing! Accepting rejection and moving on anyway. What action are you taking today to be the difference and be success? #womaninbusiness #motivation #takeaction
Thats right! Compassion Brew Coffee is now being brewed at R&R RV in #Spokane Stop by and try some today knowing 1% of every bag sold gets donated to Cancer Research!! #spokanewashington #spokanewa

Purpose Driven | Leader of Value Driving Strategic Initiatives and Business Transformation | Insatiably Curious | Change Champion | Campaigning | Volunteer Management | Voice of Reason
I’m incredibly proud to volunteer, campaign, fundraise and - for the last year - to work in a professional capacity for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). Every single day, I read and hear very personal, precious stories about people touched by cancer. But I also see the remarkable progress we are making together to tackle cancer - from discovery science through to prevention, earlier diagnosis and better, kinder treatments. #TogetherWeAreBeatingCancer👇 I’m especially proud of the success we have had tackling the biggest cause of cancer - smoking: the only legal consumer product which, when used as intended by the manufacturers, kills most long term users. Tobacco caused my dad’s lung cancer and his death aged just 66.👇 Our #SmokefreeUK campaign brings the voices of our incredible Campaigns Ambassadors, with their lived experiences, passion and determination, to amplify our evidence based policy calls, recommendations and to effect real change. Nothing the UK Government could do will save more lives and prevent more cancers than addressing the harms caused by tobacco.👇 In the coming weeks, the ‘Smokefree Generation’ (tobacco and vapes) bill will be debated in UK Parliament. Please take 1 minute to help make this legislation become a reality by telling your MP why you support measures to create a smokefree generation 👉 https://lnkd.in/evAYsPTS #cancerresearchuk #cancer #research #campaigns #campaigning #smokefreeuk #smokefreefuture
It’s been another exciting year for policy at the charity. By working together, we’ve taken positive steps towards helping beat cancer sooner, both internationally and across the UK. To celebrate our successes, we’ve pulled together our top seven policy and campaigns-related videos to illustrate some of the fantastic progress we’ve made in 2023. Would you give up your slice of #pizza 🍕 to help us receive a slice of $1.2 million? On Giving Tuesday, GlobalGiving will #moveamillion by giving away $1.2 million in funds. Giving up a slice of pizza this week and donating $3 to our project on #givingtuesday2023, could make a life-saving change. Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is one of the most common forms of childhood cancer. One of the treatments for ALL is a bone marrow or stem cell transplantation. However, this is only possible if a matching donor can be found. Your donation will be invested into the Global database of Voluntary Blood Stem Cell Donors and Cord Blood Units, increasing the chances that a matching donor can be found for every patient. You can already sign up on GlobalGiving UK and review our project page https://lnkd.in/eY-VaGWr, though please do not donate yet. The more funds we receive on #givingtuesday, the larger the slice of the $1.2 million and the more patients we can provide with second chances. GlobalGiving will distribute bonus funds to participating projects proportionally based on final fundraising totals. Donations up to $2,500 USD per unique donor per eligible project made between 00:00:00 EST (00:06:00 Central European Time) to 23:59:59 EST on 28 November 2023 will be eligible for bonus matching. Sharing is caring, so please repost this ❤️ #donations #philanthropy
