Myth vs. Fact: Marrow Donation Edition 𝐌𝐘𝐓𝐇: Donation is very painful. 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓: Donation is less painful than you probably think. Discomfort and side effects vary, but it's nothing like what you see on TV. For PBSC (Peripheral Blood Stem Cell) donation, you might experience headaches, nausea, and tiredness—mainly from the daily filgrastim shots leading up to donation. For marrow donation, there's no pain during the procedure, but you may feel a bit sore afterward. The real reason some succeed and other do not… Is the difference in action. My husband and I are literally driving to any store we can think would be a good fit and simply asking them if we can supply their coffee. Many say no… But some say yes! I’m incredibly proud to volunteer, campaign, fundraise and - for the last year - to work in a professional capacity for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). Every single day, I read and hear very personal, precious stories about people touched by cancer. Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) is one of the most common forms of childhood cancer. One of the treatments for ALL is a bone marrow or stem cell transplantation. However, this is only possible if a matching donor can be found. Your donation will be invested into the Global database of Voluntary Blood Stem Cell Donors and Cord Blood Units, increasing the chances that a matching donor can be found for every patient. The more funds we receive on #givingtuesday, the larger the slice of the $1.2 million and the more patients we can provide with second chances.
