👉 Very interesting topic (#energysecurity) with highly experienced colleagues of the shipping and import infrastructure industry this morning in Hamburg. 🌐 There seemed to be a general view that LNG will be with us for the foreseeable future - leaving it open what "long-term" might mean in this context. We might see different developments in different geographies when it comes to timelines. 🌐 When discussing green fuels a nice analogy was presented to explain the difference between what we or a country "wants" and what we "need". Certainly at any given point in time these two things are not the same 😉 I reiterate what I have said many times: Energy transition needs to be pushed forward but it is necessary not to lose sight of practitioners and technical experts perspectives. Solutions need to be pragmatic, tangible and bankable. 🌐 I tried to make the point that with general market (and demand) uncertainty, LNG provides not only security of supply but also great flexibility as do FSRUs being cost competitive import facilities, relatively quickly deployed, with inherent flexibility to be moved (no fossil lock-in) and - in the case of Höegh LNG FSRUs - they can be repurposed to facilitate a scale-up of ammonia import. 🌐 To me a key concern of policy makers and countries now is energy security in the sense of vulnerability of critical infrastructures. With Russian gas supplies out of the picture, there is no "N+1" philosophy left in gas supply. A cold snap and some operational asset issues occurring at the same time have the potential to significantly disturb energy supply with lots if unwanted knock-on effects. Important to have that in mind for all of us. Thanking my fellow panellists and our moderator for their insights and the interesting discussion. 👍

👏 Congratulations to our Senior Manager Projects & EU Policy Lina Strandvåg Nagell, who has been elected as Vice-Chair of the Governing Board for CCS Europe! As Lina is on maternity leave, our Senior Technology and Policy Manager Michał Wendołowski is currently substituting for her. 🌍 CCS has been recognised by the European Commission as essential to fulfil 2040 and 2050 climate targets, as well as to achieve full industrial decarbonisation. For harder-to-abate industries, where CO₂ is necessarily generated as part of the process, achieving full decarbonisation depends on the targeted deployment of CCS technologies to capture and permanently store CO2, which cannot be significantly reduced through alternative means. To discover more about our work on industrial decarbonisation, check out our recommendations for the next EU cycle 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dtF_zdgj #CCS #carboncapture #decarbonisation #industrialdecarbonisation #climateaction

Europe must "think outside the box" and develop an "innovative and systemic" investment approach for renewable energy infrastructure, writes Kristian Ruby, secretary-general at Eurelectric, in Sustainable Views today. Europe will not meet the aims of the Green Deal without "solutions beyond the confines of conventional approaches", including capacity mechanisms and counter-guarantees, he says. #ESG #renewableenergy #EuropeanGreenDeal #energytransition https://lnkd.in/eNH962a6

2023 Top 50 Most Influential in ESG | 2022 Investment Manager of the Year | Chair of the Investor Coalition for Equal Votes | Accredited professional trustee | 2019 Investment Woman of the Year
AGM season brings with it not just the right to vote, but also the opportunity to use other ownership rights such as pre-declarations, filing resolutions and asking AGM questions. The Railpen team has been hard at work ensuring we make the most of the season. This includes today's pre-declaration of intent to vote in favour of a shareholder resolution calling on Equinor to align its capital expenditure - which is really where the rubber hits the road - with its commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement #climatechange #stewardship #AGMseason
Railpen believes in using all its ownership and adjacent rights, not just the right to vote, in its stewardship work. So, today, Railpen has pre-declared our intention to vote for the shareholder resolution at Equinor’s upcoming AGM which calls on the international energy company to align its strategy and capital expenditure (capex) with its commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement. Climate transition is a critical issue for Railpen and our members. And, as a key player in their sector, we believe Equinor has the ability to show true leadership in this area, particularly given its strong and supportive shareholder base. You can read the shareholder resolution in full at https://ow.ly/wTAP50RsmcN and Railpen’s statement at https://ow.ly/2oYx50RsmcM #ParisAgreement #ClimateTransition #EnergySector #ShareholderResolution Adam Gillett

🔌 CCS4CEE project is nearing completion! ⚡ Over the past three years, CIVITTA has actively participated in the CCS4CEE: Building momentum for the long-term CCS deployment in the CEE region project. This initiative has been significant in renewing discussions about the long-term implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region. As we approach the conclusion of this project, at the start of December two experts from our consortium, Valts Ulmanis from CIVITTA and Jānis Volberts from Bellona Europa, met in a studio in Riga. In the video interview they discussed the critical role of CCS, Latvia's position and opportunities, key achievements of the project, and the next steps to be taken to accelerate decarbonisation process. 👇🏻 Watch below the video to find out more about CCS4CEE project and importance of carbon capture and storage in Europe and the region!
