Exciting news coming out the U.S Carlifonia high speed rail. Considering the recent unfortunate news about HS2. Though railway projects are very expensive and costs are never fully recovered. The benefits economically, to the public and the environment can never be underestimated. I for one began a career in railway thanks to the HS2 project, which without it rail would have been the last career path I would have considered.
High-speed rail is happening in California! Thanks to Governor Gavin Newsom for the shout-out on Late Night with Seth Meyers and to President Joe Biden for this historic funding! This system will transform transportation in California by connecting San Francisco and Los Angeles in under 3 hours at top speeds of 220mph. #BuildHSR

Credit to James Bickerton Jun 23, 2024 America is Embracing High-Speed Rail - Newsweek https://lnkd.in/gHqQb7hH Picture Credit to https://lnkd.in/gY9Ytxrd American voters overwhelmingly support the construction of new high-speed railways across the country according to a new poll conducted exclusively for Newsweek. The survey found 60 percent of eligible voters back additional construction against just seven percent who are opposed, with a majority also backing a ban on short-haul flights which can be covered by rail in less than two and a half hours. A new 171-mile high-speed line linking San Francisco and Los Angeles is currently being built by the California High-Speed Rail Authority, which hopes to later extend it to Sacramento and San Diego. Separately work began in April on a new 218-mile high-speed railway between Las Vegas in Nevada and southern California. In Texas there are proposals for two new high-speed lines connecting Dallas to both Houston and Fort Worth, though they remain in the preliminary stages.

Very interesting to see that the theoretical Chicago-Detroit-Toronto high-speed rail corridor has a significantly higher ridership potential than Spanish high-speed rail that is already built. Ray does great videos on cities and transportation, but his analysis of high-speed rail potential in North America is one of the highlights of his channel. It's clear that if you build it people will come. If this high-speed rail line could be built we would see enormous benefits to the safe, efficient and environmentally-friendly movement of people between these major cities. It would be excellent to reduce or eliminate the number of daily flights between Toronto and Chicago in favour of much more comfortable high-speed trains. I also have to shout out that City Of Guelph got a mention but it was pronounced "Gelf" so it may be hard to catch! #highspeedrail #publictransit #infrastructure #environmentalsustainability #sustainablecities #guelph #ontario https://lnkd.in/eCSNyuab

A new community update shares the latest news on the City’s rail grade separation discussions underway, including meetings set, ways to share input and next steps. The City is holding community conversations around solutions to increased traffic as Caltrain electrifies and more trains run through the Palo Alto corridor, and what we can do to keep everyone moving and safe. These discussions are informing upcoming decisions on alternatives for grade separation — making roads crossing the railroad lines pass over or under the tracks — to improve traffic circulation and increase public safety. There are seven streets where people and vehicles can cross the railroad tracks in Palo Alto. While three of these intersections — also known as grade crossings — are above the road and already grade separated, there are four remaining that cross the tracks at the same level, posing traffic and safety issues. Makes sense to limit the number of highway lanes and add capacity by high capacity mass transit - this should be national policy. However, not building them does not make sense i.e. "do nothing" because highways have to be reconstructed at end of life. Also tailpipe emissions in gasoline powered vehicles is close to zero. Green house gases are from? https://lnkd.in/g62qvqdF "Reconstruct I-25 to add one 12-foot Express Lane in each direction from CO 66 to just south of CO 56 with a 4-foot painted buffer separating the tolled Express Lane from the general purpose travel lanes."
Interesting article on the transportation policy direction of Colorado.

Metro’s 2023 Regional Transportation Plan calls for expanding many different high-capacity transit lines but includes no mention of reducing the most costly ones. As of this spring, the WES commuter rail from Beaverton to Wilsonville only sees 450 daily boardings. That is only 225 riders, assuming a round trip. To put that in perspective, the least popular of the five MAX rail lines, the Orange Line, has more than 5,000 daily boardings. Meanwhile, the Blue Line has almost 30,000. https://bit.ly/3QkdZBz
