Follow me as I build a community of founders scaling to 8-figures. Marketing, doing deals and other piratey stuff.
I've always been a founder. From a young age I've known the insane rush of solving problems and bringing new ideas into the world through business. I've also felt how difficult and slow things get when I'm not building. It's the reason founders are unemployable. Join me in watching the recent Founders Unmasked episode where I talk with Tom Moore about how founders come to be, why they have to build and why we mythologize them. In the latest episode of The Hero Show, the spotlight was on Nicki Purcell and the mission that drives their business forward. The conversation revolved around a crucial aspect that many technology companies often overlook - humanizing technology. The mission? It's simple yet profound: to leverage technology not just for the sake of innovation but to genuinely solve problems and make a significant impact. Nicki emphasized that the return on investment (ROI) in technology is undeniable. However, honesty and transparency in evaluating its effectiveness are paramount. There are instances where the solution doesn't necessitate building from scratch but rather integrating existing solutions in a way that's both efficient and cost-effective. This approach not only addresses the immediate needs but does so in a manner that's grounded in reality and practicality. At the core of their values is the belief in treating others with fairness and respect, embodying the principle of treating others as one would like to be treated. This ethos extends to their business practices, where honesty about whether their services are the right fit takes precedence. It's not always about custom software; sometimes, the best solution is the simplest one. Moreover, one of the core values highlighted was the importance of fun. It's a reminder that at the heart of every technological advancement, there should be a human touch, a sense of joy and satisfaction in solving problems and making a difference. This conversation was not just about technology but about the philosophy that guides its use in solving real-world problems. It's a refreshing take on how businesses can and should approach technology - not as an end in itself but as a means to a more connected, humane, and fun world. For those intrigued by the idea of humanizing technology and how it can transform the way we approach business challenges, the full episode offers a wealth of insights. Diving into PR can feel like stepping onto a stage. You've got the spotlight, the audience, but before you grab that mic, ask yourself: "What's my act?" You see, there are only three big reasons to step into that light, as a start-up: grabbing the attention of new customers, wooing top-notch talent, or catching the eye of those ever-important investors. Sunil Nagaraj, Founding Partner at Ubiquity Ventures, raises a good point as well. Behind the scenes, the world of PR and marketing can feel like a different universe. It's not as immediate, not as quantifiable as a line of code or a spike in user stats. It's more like planting a garden than flipping a switch; you've got to give it time, let it grow, and that's a tough sell for minds wired for instant feedback. Every time I chat with founders eager for PR, dreaming of headlines before their time, I can't help but wonder, "What's the real play here?" Listen to the full episode: https://cutt.ly/Iw9uAt3z
