Loved this piece from our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. DiCasimirro. We often speak broadly about barriers to care, but specifically, member preference stands out. As behavioral health professionals, part of meeting members where they are is listening to how they want to receive care and committing to providing that for them. Without modality choice, care itself becomes a barrier. #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealth #Modality #MemberPreference
Thirty-two percent of behavioral health patients report that they do not receive their preferred treatment modality, while 45% felt that their clinician didn’t consider their treatment preferences at all. These numbers reflect a disconnect between member preference and available care options. Read recommendations to close this gap from Lucet Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Bernard DiCasimirro. As behavioral health professionals, we must commit to meeting member preferences to support a strong relationship and treatment adherence. Without modality choice, we risk driving members from the care they need. https://hubs.la/Q028KvdV0 #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealth #Modality #MemberPreference

A gripping webinar organized by the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) revealed a nuanced template for addressing substance use from a public health perspective. The webinar underscored an innovative approach to developing public health policies related to substance use. A few things to note: (1) Upholding an individual's autonomy is vital while dealing with health determinants. (2) There is a need for partnerships with individuals who have had first-hand experiences; these partnerships should ensure that the affected people play an integral role in policy and decision-making processes. (3) A bold commitment to eradicate stigmatization and discrimination is what drives this noble course— this will see a more inclusive and just health sector. From my perspective as a critical health sociologist, I find interest in how it integrates trauma(healing)-informed, gender-transformative, anti-racist, culturally safe practices— which should form the basis when coming up with any policies towards substance use. Holistic approaches should include harm reduction and human rights at the forefront to recognize the full spectrum of substance use & addiction. The stress on practical and evidenced decision-making, which facilitates bridging the gap of research to application in reality, is highly compatible with my work philosophy. This approach makes public/community health programs more effective, sustainable, and capable of responding to diverse communities' needs. I look forward to the sector's efforts to advance equity in health and transformative policies towards public/community/population health—an essential realm of public healthcare that impacts many lives. #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #SubstanceUse #CPHA #SocialJustice #HealthPolicy #Addiction #MentalHealth #MentalHealthPolicy #PopulationHealth #CommunityCentric #DrugPolicy Link to video: https://lnkd.in/exs8UejY
