Did you know that transport is the main cause of greenhouse gas emissions in France and Europe? Only 100% electric engines can fully meet the zero emissions in use objective. However, around 50% of an electric vehicle's carbon footprint comes from manufacturing its battery. That’s where we come in! By working on both design and production, we aim at reducing our carbon footprint through innovation and optimisation. Our goal: achieve a carbon footprint per cell of less than 40kg eqCO2. Discover now what we are doing on both levers to reduce our emissions, and read the full 2023 CSR report on our website! 👉https://lnkd.in/df9w3BiU

Maroš Šefčovič 📣🧑💼 We applause Executive Vice-President Šefčovič for confirming the long-awaited publication of a public consultation for Greening Corporate Fleets Initiative - originally announced for Q1 2023 and for which we called for a few months ago 👇 - in his replies to additional questions by the ENVI Commitee. Why ❓ The electrification of corporate fleets would represents a golden opportunity to not only tackle transport emissions, EU’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, but also widen the access to cheaper second-hand electric vehicles. https://lnkd.in/es67AGZj

Looking forward to the role of CO2-neutral fuels in the #decarbonisation of our sector. The European Parliament voted last week to adopt its position in favour of the European Commission’s proposal to impose new CO2 emissions reduction targets for medium and heavy trucks and buses. These targets support our commitment and that of millions of European citizens – industrial players, farmers, unions, civil society, governments, etc. – by reinstating the crucial technology-neutral approach, where CO2-neutral fuels contribute to decarbonisation objectives, through virtuous emissions cycles applied to existing and new running fleets. Given that this proposal has been inserted in the EU Council joint text, we expect it will also be included in the final legislative text. Our CEO, Gerrit Marx, commented: “Iveco Group remains fully committed to deploying electric and H2-powered vehicles, while simultaneously continuing to develop alternative green propulsions. Considering also the uncertainties related to the viability of key enabling conditions, like the recharging infrastructure, we urge European policy makers to move to secure the beneficial role of CO2-neutral fuels and to put in place a supportive policy framework that accelerates the green transition of road transport.”

Low-carbon electricity & advanced biofuels such as #biomethane are complementary and equally necessary to decarbonise the on-road freight transport in Europe. This fact is gaining more and more supporters, and this is good news, knowing that 90% of the job remains to be done between now and 2050.

The notion of #CO2neutralfuels (including #bioGNV), already recognized as solutions for decarbonizing heavy transport by #RED directive, has been included in the text voted by Parliament. The Parliament also called for “a full analysis, by the end of 2025, of the need to further incentivize the adoption of advanced biofuels and biogas, and renewable fuels of non-biological origin (…)”. This is a first step. But "given the uncertainties linked to the viability of essential enabling conditions, such as recharging infrastructure", or ability of hauliers to purchase electric and hydrogen vehicles at very high prices, we need to go further to "guarantee the beneficial role of CO2-neutral fuels and to put in place a supportive policy framework that accelerates the ecological transition of road transport". #CarbonCorrectionFactor

💡 Did you know: BC leads North America in adopting zero-emission vehicles. By requiring fuel suppliers to reduce the carbon intensity of their products over time, the British Columbia Low Carbon Fuel Standard encourages the use of lower-carbon fuels, and supports the development of clean technology. Want to learn more? Join our upcoming webinar with e-Mission Control, where you'll hear from Colby Green, Director of Business, and Matthew Riyanto, Operations Manager, about why businesses should consider the money they make from their long-lasting programs in their cost analysis. They'll also discuss how participating in these programs can help organizations understand how much pollution they're avoiding by using cleaner options instead of diesel. In early 2022, we received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for our ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 41.5% by 2030, globally. We have a strong commitment to controlling energy usage and minimizing environmental impact and plan to accomplish this goal through various initiatives. Carbon dioxide emissions by companies are divided into three scopes. - Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions by the company’s assets, such as vehicles and factories. - Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions, created when energy purchased by the company is generated by outside means. - And Scope 3 are indirect emissions that are in no way controlled by the company, including the use of its products and investments. In 2020 we launched a “Third by ‘30” goal to reduce the intensity of our Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 1/3 by 2030. We are now committing to reducing our Scope 3 emissions by 1/3 by 2030.

Public transportation is inherently sustainable and a proven reducer of greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) riders produce 1/3 of the carbon footprint of those who travel by car. This week, I participated in an American Public Transportation Association/Federal Transit Administration webinar titled, “Role of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses in a Zero Emission Future” alongside moderator Larry Murphy of Jacobs, Megan Blum of the FTA, Kirt Conrad from Stark Area Regional Transit Authority, and Doran Barnes of Foothill Transit. I shared how Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has committed to full transition of our bus fleet to all zero-emission buses (ZEBs) by the year 2040, including our plan to create innovative infrastructure that supports the transportation needs of our riders through a more sustainable, efficient, and dynamic system.
